Wald am Schoberpaß is nestled between the Ennstal and Seckau Alps. If you are looking for a hotel in Wald am Schober Pass, you can first consider which themes you would like to shape your stay: mountain hikes, Nordic walking, cross-country skiing, time by the lake or the village’s religious history. These different focuses can help you match your interests with the specific options available locally.

Hiking between valley views and mountain tours

The Styrian Iron Trail passes through the municipality of Wald am Schoberpaß on its third stage. Another option is the mountain hike to Lahnerleitenspitze: it starts in Wald am Schoberpaß and follows a route past the traditional Aigelsbrunner Alm mountain hut. Conditions along the way and hut services may vary; check both before setting off.

A moderately difficult mountain hike leads to Großer Schober in the Seckauer Tauern, offering views of the Palten-Liesing Valley. You can distinguish this tour by its difficulty rating and the described valley views from the hike to Lahnerleitenspitze, which focuses on its starting point in Wald and the route past the alpine pasture.

Nordic walking, recreational lake and cross-country skiing

The local NWO-certified Nordic walking centre offers dedicated routes and courses based on Feng Shui principles. This is a separate option for guests who would like to include Nordic walking in their trip. Wald am Schoberpaß recreational lake also offers swimming and active water fun; the water is of drinking-water quality.

The cross-country ski trail also has several named landmarks: it has three access points and interconnected circuits of up to 10 kilometres in length. The route runs through the entire municipality of Wald, from Wald to Unterwald, and offers both classic and skate skiing. The precise route may change due to maintenance work; check the current route before setting off.

One access point to the trail is right by Wald am Schoberpaß railway station. The station is on the regional rail line between Leoben and Selzthal. So if you would like to combine your journey with a cross-country skiing outing, the station and access point offer a specific reference for planning; check the current timetable when arranging your trip.

Religious history and buildings

The parish church in Wald am Schoberpaß is dedicated to St Kunigunde. The parish also includes the Chapel of the Holy Virgin Mary in the Liesinggraben, also known as “Our Lady of Sorrows.” It was built in 1843. The village’s religious landmarks therefore include both a parish church and a chapel with its own name and year of construction.

The Protestant parish is another part of the area’s history: founded in 1786, it is Styria’s third Tolerance parish, after Ramsau and Schladming. The present-day Protestant church building and its tower were consecrated in 1850; the church is described as one of the oldest Protestant churches in the country.
