Discover Wielitsch by setting out for a specific hiking destination: the Ratsch-Ottenberg Wine Trail No. 21 leads uphill to the Grabschneider Chapel.
Explore the vineyards on foot or by Pinzgauer
The Grabschneider Chapel is also known as the Wielitsch Chapel and is a small sacred gem amid the vineyards of Ehrenhausen on the South Styrian Wine Road. If you like to plan a hike around a named destination, you can use the chapel as a landmark. This combines exercise with a specific sacred site in one outing. Check current trail conditions before setting out.
The Pinzgauer tour offers another way to experience the vineyards. It starts directly at Georgiberg Winery and takes you through, into and across the vineyards in original Steyr-Puch Pinzgauers. The tour ends at the winery with a tasting of three selected wines. The ride and tasting therefore make up one combined excursion. As booking and operating conditions may change, check them in advance.
Animals and refreshments with an access restriction
Bärenhof Berghausen is a small zoo with brown bears and other animals; its address is Wielitsch 40, 8461 Ehrenhausen an der Weinstraße. The “Zum Ruprechter” zoo tavern is open exclusively to visitors to Bärenhof. A stop there should therefore be part of your plans for visiting the zoo. It is housed in a historic building around 200 years old and operates as a traditional Buschenschank. Its offerings include homemade regional snacks, house wines, juices and pastries. Check the access rules and seasonal arrangements in advance.
Snacks, wine and celebrations
At Gallunder Buschenschank, you can sample all the wines and culinary specialities. The offerings include cold dishes and snacks from regional businesses, as well as homemade pastries made using Mum’s recipes. You’ll find both savoury cold dishes and sweet treats there.
At STIN Styrian GIN, the ingredients grow near the producers’ farm. This specific aspect of their origin adds another product detail to the wine-related experiences.
Georgiberg Winery | Vinothek offers a 5-hectare estate for individually tailored wedding, birthday and corporate celebrations. Georgiberg Winery thus features in two contexts: as the starting and finishing point of the Pinzgauer tour and as an event venue. Celebrations range from private occasions to corporate events.
A programme just for children
KraftOase’s Children’s Adventure Day is a standalone activity for children. It includes yoga in nature, animal encounters with opportunities to feed goats and watch chickens, and forest bathing for children. These three elements combine movement, animal observation and experiences in nature. Dates and availability may change; check both before making plans.
The experiences differ in their focus and format: the wine trail leads to the chapel, while the Pinzgauer tour combines a ride through the vineyards with a wine tasting. The Children’s Adventure Day programme features yoga, animal encounters and forest bathing for children.
