Taschen can be explored via clearly named routes and historical sites: one route leads from here to the Roman Tomb at Krienzer-Kogl; other routes pass through Taschen to Semriach or continue towards Tanneben and Lurgrotte Cave. Taschen is also designated as a viewpoint in the Semriach hiking area.
Roman Tomb and Historical Sites
The Roman Tomb is a Roman burial mound discovered in 1962 and restored in situ at Krienzer-Kogl. “In situ” means that the restoration took place at the original site. A route from Taschen leads to the tomb. The marked and signposted hiking trail from the Roman Tomb to Semriach begins in Taschen and follows Trail 11. The route runs from the Wegmacherhaus bus stop to the Semriach Hauptplatz bus stop. Hiking Tour 05, “Semriach and Surroundings,” also passes through Taschen to the Roman Tomb; its stated walking time is 1:45 hours.
The ruins of Luginsland are still visible in the vicinity of the Tasche crossing. For visitors interested in local history, the ruins offer another historical landmark. A Roman burial mound and visible ruins provide different historical perspectives.
Routes by Destination and Distance
Route 12 is 5.9 km long and follows Trail 756 via Taschen and the three “Taschen-Bauern” to Tanneben and Lurgrotte Cave. The marked Trail 756 reaches Taschen from Deutschfeistritz-Peggau and then continues north on Trail 11. Tour 739 offers a different destination: it leads from Draxlerkogel via Taschen to Semriach.
If you have already chosen your destination, you can compare the directions first: Route 12 names Tanneben and Lurgrotte Cave, while Tour 739 names Semriach; Trail 756 leads from Deutschfeistritz-Peggau to Taschen and then continues north on Trail 11. The figures cannot be compared directly: 1:45 hours is the walking time for Tour 05, while 5.9 km is the length of Route 12. Use them for different purposes—one for planning the time needed for Tour 05, and the other for the length of Route 12.
Finding Your Way Around Taschen
The road layout can also help with orientation: Am Kogl road runs north around Krienzerkogel and joins TaschenstraĂźe at Untertaucherkreuz in the Markterviertel district. From Taschen, access to the Roman Tomb is possible via TaschenstraĂźe. This lets you distinguish the possible access via TaschenstraĂźe from the marked route on Trail 11.
GUSTmobil stop 1460 is located on Taschen in Semriach. If you plan to use it for your journey, check the current connection in advance.
