Visitors choosing Hörmsdorf as a destination can explore two distinct aspects of the area: winegrowing and its former coal mining. Other highlights include the burial mounds in Fuxwald, a hiking route with views of Eibiswald and the Radlkamm, and mountain biking routes with their own waypoints. You can tailor your stay to your interests in history, hiking, cycling or wine.

Mining History and Earlier Traces

Coal was mined intensively in Hörmsdorf at the beginning of the 20th century. The Charlotte-Marie shaft operated from 1905 to 1920 and yielded a rich industrial output; it was closed in 1920 for economic reasons. The Kolonie-Hörmsdorf settlement developed during the period of intensive coal mining. The shaft, mining operations and establishment of the settlement show how closely mining was tied to the area’s history.

The burial mounds in Fuxwald near Hörmsdorf represent a different historical period: they are considered evidence of the Roman-era past of the municipality of Pitschgau. This takes the story of the area’s history beyond the mining period of the early 20th century. Those interested in history can explore two clearly distinct eras through the themes associated with Hörmsdorf.

Weingarten Tour and Mountain Biking Routes

The Weingarten Tour heads towards Hörmsdorf as far as the Kiefer winegrower and focuses there on spring in the vineyard’s annual cycle. The hike over Höllberg offers views of Eibiswald and the Radlkamm. The tour also passes through the Hörmsdorfer Kolonie, a former mining settlement. Winegrowing, views and the settlement’s history thus come together as different points of interest on the same tour.

The mountain biking routes offer different courses and waypoints to compare. The signposted Panoramatour (Eibiswald), No. 102, descends gently from Pichlippi to Hörmsdorf. Route Kapuner–St. Pongratzen No. 113 passes the ESV Hörmsdorf stocksport facility and continues via the Johannisbrücke to the church. While Route No. 102 focuses on the descent to Hörmsdorf, Route No. 113 lists a series of specific waypoints. You can distinguish between the routes by their stated direction and landmarks.

Wine and Refreshments

The Buschenschank Haring-Pichlippi serves homemade vinegar, pumpkin seed oil and wines typical of the region. Visitors can enjoy a glass of wine there while taking in the beautiful views. As the Buschenschank is open seasonally, check before your trip whether a visit is possible on your dates.

The Haring Pichlippi winery includes Schilcher in its selection.

Long-Distance Hiking Trails in the Wider Area

The long-distance hiking museum in the host municipality provides an overview of hiking, with information boards about long-distance trails WW 03, 05 and 06. These trails are a separate long-distance hiking option alongside the local routes around Hörmsdorf.
