The cycle path to Hinterweißpriach leads from the village centre through the Schwaig district and along the Longa to Hinterweißpriach. From the toll barrier, the cycle path in Hinterweißpriach follows the turquoise Longa into the upper Weißpriachtal valley. The ride into the upper valley follows wide gravel and alpine pasture tracks and is suitable for mountain bikes and gravel bikes. There is also a rest area with benches along the cycle path to Hinterweißpriach. The different starting points are useful when choosing a route: the route to Hinterweißpriach starts in the village centre, while the route into the upper valley starts at the toll barrier.

Longa scenery and local connections

In the surrounding area, the entire Longa region has been designated a protected landscape area because of the unique meanders of the Longa stream. The designation covers the entire area; the meanders are the reason for its protection. Meanders are bends in a stream’s course. The Seekreuz Chapel is in Hinterweißpriach.

Waterfalls with seasonal water flow

A route description published on 30 March 2021 locates Uln Waterfall just beyond the Ulnhütte. When there is enough water, it is a popular photo spot. The same description depicts the Longa, usually a gently flowing stream, plunging noisily into the depths at Glücksplatzl. Water flow at these spots is seasonal.

Hike to Lake Wirpitschsee

The “Weißpriach: Wirpitschsee” hike follows the clear Longa to Lake Wirpitschsee at an elevation of 1,699 metres and starts at a car park in Hinterweißpriach. By car, you can reach the trail as far as the Znachtal junction; from there, the access road continues left to the last car park, which is fenced. Road and parking regulations may change, so check the current situation before setting off.

Bike & Hike and other riverside activities

On the Bike-&-Hike route to Lake Wirpitschsee, the cycling section ends at the Ulnhütte. Leave your bikes there and continue on foot towards the Tonimörtlhütte and Lake Wirpitschsee. The hiking section beyond the Ulnhütte passes a waterfall, crosses the Longa and follows the marked trail into the forest. For the hike on foot, the car park in Hinterweißpriach is the starting point; the Bike-&-Hike route includes a cycling section to the Ulnhütte.

In the upper Weißpriachtal valley, there is a Kneipp facility beside the cold, clear Longa. In the surrounding area, the Longa is a destination for fly fishing, and its banks offer a place to take a break during a hike. There are two different options for a stop along the way: a rest area with benches on the cycle path and the Longa’s banks as a place to pause during a hike.

These options differ in their starting points and mode of travel, giving your accommodation planning a specific focus.
