Irenental combines architectural and local history with a variety of cycling and hiking opportunities. The Parish Church of Maria Schnee, the Tullnerbach Cultural Trail and routes around Troppberg each offer a different focus. For planning, you can compare the options using specific details such as construction dates, route distances, elevation gain and duration.
Parish Church and Cultural Trail
The Parish Church of Irenental, Maria Schnee, is dedicated to the Virgin Mary; its patronal feast, “Maria Schnee,” falls on 5 August. The church was built as a hall church between 1900 and 1901. Its architectural style and construction date give a visit to Irenental a clear connection to church history, without requiring a more extensive historical background.
The Tullnerbach Cultural Trail begins in Irenental and continues along the Karl-Ritter-Weg. Its first stop is Wundererplatz. The square is named after Alexander Wunderer (1877–1955), an oboist with the k.k. Court Opera Orchestra and a member of the Vienna Philharmonic. This links the route along the cultural trail to a specific musical reference in local history.
In the wider area around Irenental, the ruins of the Sancta Maria in Paradyso monastery lie at the edge of the municipality of Tullnerbach, on the border with Sieghartskirchen. Remains of the nave and choir of the former monastery church have been preserved at the ruins. This makes them another historical point of interest, separate from the cultural trail in the village.
Compare cycling routes and hikes
Those comparing cycling routes by distance and elevation gain will find two different profiles. The family cycling route Troppberg Route 2 passes through Irenental, is 22.1 kilometres long and has 320 metres of elevation gain. Troppberg Route III is a mountain bike tour covering 19.46 kilometres with 473 metres of elevation gain; it is rated moderate. Although this tour is listed as shorter, it has more elevation gain. The family classification and moderate rating help put the figures in perspective rather than focusing only on route length.
The mountain bike tour follows Irenentaler Straße and Troppbergstraße uphill to Ameisberg and then continues to Troppberg. The hiking route Irenental–Ameisberg–Troppberg is a separate option: it continues as far as Strohzogl and has a stated duration of 2½ hours. Seasonal conditions may affect the practical use of the hiking route. Another option is the Mauerbach gravel bike tour, which passes through the Wienerwald village of Irenental.
Natural setting and activities
The Troppberg core zone is located in Irenental, west of Gablitz, and covers around 565 hectares. This area figure conveys the size of the protected area, while the various tours describe their own routes through the surrounding area.
The Naturaktiv Centre is home to one of Austria’s largest archery facilities. It includes a practice range, a training facility and three different 3D courses. Check operating conditions before visiting. This lets you include the activity in your plans separately from the cycling and hiking routes.
The so-called Irenentaler Stadl is a welcoming starting point for a variety of activities. Talks, workshops and seminars take place in the Stadl and outdoors in nature. The information therefore mentions both a fixed event venue and activities in nature, without conflating them with the offerings of the Naturaktiv Centre.
Getting around the village
The Tullnerbach–Irenental connecting path offers another specific route description: it descends from a forest road and reaches Irenental via Klostergasse. Together with the cultural trail’s starting point and the cycling and hiking routes mentioned above, it provides an overview of several different route profiles. When planning your trip, you can therefore choose whether to focus on architectural and local history, cycling, hiking or archery.
