A 900-metre circular trail with a 60-metre suspension bridge, a moorland experience trail and a farmhouse on a 300-year-old farm offer very different ways to explore Göstling an der Ybbs. There are also signposted hiking trails, a cycling route, swimming options and traces of ironworking. To plan your visit, you can group these activities by the focus you prefer: mountain circular trail, moorland, cycling route, water or cultural history.

Circular Trail, Moorland and Hiking Trails

The Hochkar 360° Sky Tour is a 900 m circular trail near the Hochkar mountain station and is easily accessible by lift. The trail crosses a 60 m suspension bridge. With its clearly defined length, the route offers a mountain walk with a well-defined distance.

Leckermoos in Hochreit near Göstling an der Ybbs is a nature reserve with a moorland experience trail. If you would rather focus on a moorland landscape than a circular trail on the Hochkar, you can make Leckermoos your own nature-focused stop. Göstling an der Ybbs also has 157 km of signposted hiking trails. The published length of the trail network may change as routes are added or revised. This gives you a choice between a clearly defined circular trail, an extensive signposted network and a trail focused on the moorland.

Cycling Route and Tour Itinerary

The Ybbstal Cycle Route runs from Waidhofen an der Ybbs via Opponitz, Hollenstein an der Ybbs, St. Georgen am Reith and Göstling an der Ybbs to Lunz am See. The “Power of Water” tour, by contrast, leads from Göstling through the Nothklamm gorge and Steinbachtal valley to the Tremmel. The two routes therefore differ in their described itineraries: the cycle route passes through several towns, while the tour follows a route from Göstling through a gorge and valley to the Tremmel.

Ski Area and Swimming

The Hochkar ski area offers 19 kilometres of pistes, with runs ranging from child-friendly to challenging. The stated piste length may change with future development. This gives you a published total length and a range of different piste profiles to consider when planning a ski trip.

Ybbstaler Solebad offers a varied bathing area with therapeutic brine and family-friendly pools. In summer, the river bathing area on the Ybbs next to Ybbstaler Solebad is open daily from 9 am to 9 pm. The river bathing area is therefore an explicitly seasonal swimming option; the stated hours apply when spending time by the river.

Farmhouse Museum and Ironworking

Ablass Farmhouse Museum is located on a 300-year-old farm in the heart of the Ybbstal Alps nature and landscape conservation area. It features a kitchen, a bread oven and a tiled stove from the early 20th century. The upper floor illustrates living and sleeping arrangements around 1900. Farmhouse kitchen furnishings and depictions of the living and sleeping spaces of the time are presented side by side.

Another way to explore regional history is the 16th-century Fassziehhammer (barrel-hoop hammer). It is one of the surviving structures that bear witness to the former importance of ironworking in the area around Göstling an der Ybbs. While the farmhouse museum offers insights into rural domestic and everyday life, the Fassziehhammer focuses on ironworking in the past.
