Poysbrunn lies in a narrow valley in the Falkenstein Hills. Visitors arriving from Poysdorf are greeted at the southern entrance to the town by an oversized Frog Prince figure. Fairytales feature prominently in the townscape and along its trails; the castle’s history and cultural events offer further points of interest.

Fairytale Motifs Around Town

More than 50 fairytale figures and displays by various artists can be seen along the main street and Märchensommerallee. As installations may change, their number can also vary. The large Frog Prince figure at the southern entrance to the town adds a distinctive fairytale touch that can be seen from afar.

Fairytale stations with QR codes are located along the main street, through Märchensommerallee and at the fairytale storytelling site. There, you can listen to fairytales on your smartphone at any time. A guided fairytale walk is a different kind of experience: it leads to the storytelling site, includes a fairytale reading and ends with an ice cream. This means you can choose between audio stations for independent discovery and a guided experience with a reading.

Castle and Cultural Events

Poysbrunn Castle was first mentioned in a document in the 12th century as “Veste Bozesbrunn”. The NÖ Märchensommer has been held at the castle since 2008. If you are planning a visit, it is advisable to check the event dates for the relevant year. The two dates refer to different periods: the first points to the castle’s medieval history, while 2008 marks the start of the recurring Märchensommer event.

There is also a cultural offering beyond the castle: cultural life in Poysbrunn flourishes in the theatre hall of the Alte Schule. The “Märchendorf Poysbrunn” association presents cultural performances for all ages several times a year. Both a named venue and recurring performances are therefore part of the town’s cultural scene.

Trails Through Poysbrunn

The 3-Schwestern-Weg passes through the Franzbergen cellar lane and along Märchensommerallee. It reaches Poysbrunn’s eastern edge via a path and the road that follows. The route described thus connects two named parts of the town before continuing to its eastern edge.

On the Märchen.rad.route, numerous fairytale figures await discovery along the trail in Poysbrunn. The fairytale theme is also part of this cycling route. At Schwemmplatz, a drinking fountain serves as a rest stop and offers refreshment for people exploring the surrounding cycling and hiking trails. Anyone looking at routes in the area will therefore find a specific, named place to take a break.

Franzbergen Cellar Lane

Franzbergen cellar lane in Poysbrunn features an impressive collection of wine cellars. It adds another specific local point of interest alongside the fairytale motifs, drawing attention to the lane’s wine cellars. Together with the route of the 3-Schwestern-Weg, Franzbergen is also part of a described trail.
