Explore Traisen through several distinctive features: the Rupert Hollaus Showroom focuses on motorcycle racing, the Voralpen Bird Trail on birdlife, and marked circular trails offer different estimated durations. There is also the town’s church and local history, as well as connections to cycling and pilgrimage routes. If you are planning a stay, you can choose to focus on culture, nature observation or outdoor activities.

Motorcycle racing and personal history

The Rupert Hollaus Showroom displays trophies, awards and personal belongings of Rupert Hollaus. The exhibition documents his rise through the NSU factory team to the world championship title and sheds light on the circumstances of his tragic death. Sporting achievements and personal biography are presented side by side: the objects trace Hollaus’s career, while the exhibition also explores his path to the title and the circumstances of his death. Anyone interested in motorcycle racing will find more here than a tribute to competitive success.

Churches and local history

Along the Mariazeller Straße (B20) in Traisen, visitors can experience the history of the town centre. Numerous historic buildings and former businesses have been documented, described and marked along the stretch from the Kulmhofweg area to Berthold-Fischer-Lände. The marked traces of local history therefore include former businesses as well as historic buildings.

St. John’s Church was built in Traisen and served as the parish church of Lilienfeld until the abbey was founded. Another connection to the town’s churches: the modern Roman Catholic parish church houses a large 14th-century crucifix from the pilgrimage site of Annaberg. Three monuments in Traisen commemorate the sporting achievements of world champions from the town: Rudolf Schmidseder in alpine skiing, Karl Proisl in canoeing and Rupert Hollaus in motorcycle racing.

Birdlife and circular hiking trails

The Voralpen Bird Trail introduces the birdlife in and around Traisen. Ten information panels provide details, and two stations have audio boxes, each featuring six different bird calls. Around 100 different bird species breed in and around Traisen. The trail combines information panels with bird calls you can listen to.

There are also specific points of comparison to help you choose a circular hiking trail. Traisner Circular Trail 4 is marked in orange and is listed as taking two hours. Traisner Circular Trail 2 is marked in red and is listed as taking four hours. This lets you compare the stated durations directly: they differ by two hours, and the trail markings distinguish the two routes.

Cycling route and Via Sacra

The Traisental Cycle Path is 111 kilometres long and meets the Triesting-Gölsental Cycle Path in Traisen. Traisen is also on the traditional Via Sacra pilgrimage route to Mariazell. The routes serve different purposes: two cycle paths meet in Traisen, while the Via Sacra is a pilgrimage route to Mariazell. If you would like to plan your stay around a route, you can first decide whether cycling or the pilgrimage route is a better fit for your plans.
