Discover Gedersdorf through its winegrowing, cellar lanes and paths through the countryside. There are also historic churches in several villages and a railway station in Gedersdorf. When planning your stay, you can choose from viewpoints, hiking and cycling tours, wine and local history.

Winegrowing and Cellar Lanes

Several cellar lanes lie in loess ravines on the hillside in Gedersdorf. The lovingly maintained winepress houses shape this cultural landscape and give winegrowing a visible presence in the local scenery. Grüner Veltliner and Rheinriesling grow especially well on the south-facing terraces; Zweigelt is the predominant red grape variety. The different grape varieties offer a tangible insight into local wine production.

The Heurigen are also an option for a stop: they serve excellent wines and hearty local cuisine. Opening dates vary, so it is worth checking them before your visit. This lets you combine a trip to the cellar lanes with a meal without assuming a particular day of opening.

Hiking, Views and Cycling Routes

Hiking trails through the vineyards offer views of the northern Tullnerfeld and the foothills of the Alps. For mountain hikes, farm roads lead to viewpoints overlooking the Danube region; conditions on individual paths may vary. This gives you a choice of tours with expansive panoramas as well as views across the wine-growing landscape.

At the viewing spot on Spiegelweg, there is a bench right on the Kremstal-Danube long-distance hiking trail. It was built by the municipality’s women farmers and winegrowers and invites you to linger. From the vineyard in Gedersdorf, the view stretches across the Kremstal wine-growing region and far into the foothills of the Alps; how far you can see depends on the weather.

One stage of the Kremstal-Danube 05 long-distance hiking trail first follows the Danube directly through floodplain landscapes, then continues across fields and orchards to Theiß and Brunn im Felde. In addition, hiking and cycling paths run along the Danube and the Kamp through floodplain landscapes, past orchards and sunflower fields. If you prefer two wheels, you can take marked cycle routes along the Danube and towards the Waldviertel.

There is a physically separated walking and cycling path connecting Gedersdorf and Stratzdorf. The project was reported as completed on 18 February 2026. The route starts at the intersection with Gartenstraße, runs along the west side of the cellar lane and reaches the Stratzdorf town sign. This distinguishes this specific connection from the other hiking and cycling routes in the area.

Churches and Local History

The branch church in Gedersdorf was built around 1300 and is one of the oldest churches on the Wagram. It is dedicated to Saint Philip and Saint James. In Brunn im Felde, the parish church is dedicated to Saint James the Greater; according to the heritage register, it has been a protected monument since 23 June 2026.

The churches in the other villages also tell different stories of their construction. The present-day parish church in Theiß, dedicated to the Immaculate Conception of Mary, dates from 1842–1843. It was built in place of a plague chapel erected in 1715–1716. In Schlickendorf, the village chapel is dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua; the present chapel was built in place of a timber chapel erected in 1717. The village chapel in Stratzdorf is dedicated to Saint Joseph and is also a protected monument.

The Admonterhof is part of Brunn im Felde’s history; it once served as an estate farm for Admont Abbey. In Stratzdorf, the Dominikalhof was the former manor farm of Herzogenburg Abbey. Together with the churches, these places offer different starting points for exploring the cultural history of Gedersdorf and its villages.
