The St. Laurent Wine Trail in Tattendorf is around 2 km long, accessible, and offers information about winegrowing in the region at eight experience stops. You can also explore the Triesting floodplain from Tattendorf on walks; hikes through vineyards and fields are possible on well-maintained paths. These activities have different focuses: a themed winegrowing trail, walks in the floodplain, and routes through the cultural landscape.

Winegrowing and regional culture

Winegrowing has been practised in Tattendorf since 1256. The Tattendorf Wine Harvest Festival also plays an important role in the town: it has been held every year for more than 100 years. At the Tattendorf wine festival, guests can enjoy outstanding wines from the Thermenregion and hearty regional specialities from local winegrowers. Alongside its long winegrowing tradition, the town also offers a range of occasions and activities centred on wine culture.

Another cultural venue is the mill at the “In der Mühle” winery. Today it is a museum and hosts exhibition openings, exhibitions and concerts. Tours of the mill can be booked by phone; school and children’s groups are especially welcome. The “School on the Farm” programme gives children the chance to grind grain and prepare something with it. The offering ranges from cultural events to hands-on activities involving grain.

Buildings and history

Tattendorf railway station was faithfully restored in 1985. Particularly noteworthy are the water tower and the pumping system used to supply steam locomotives with water. The Church of the Holy Mary in Distress is a Baroque hall church with a Gothic choir. The Nepomuk Chapel adds a smaller landmark to the townscape: this simple Baroque wayside chapel contains a statue of the saint and was built in 1728. The buildings illustrate different aspects of the town’s history, from the technical facilities of a railway station to Baroque religious architecture.

Floodplains, trails and nature

You can explore the Triesting floodplain from Tattendorf on walks. EuroVelo 9a also passes through the Tattendorf Triesting floodplains. Hikes through vineyards and fields on well-maintained paths are also possible in and around Tattendorf. The landscapes offer different experiences: walks lead into the floodplain, while hikes take you through vineyards and fields.

The municipal area includes the “Rohrlüsse” parcel, with valuable wetland habitats as well as dry hedgerows and grassland. These habitats provide a home for endangered bird species and support a diverse range of plant life. In summer, Schubert Park in Tattendorf offers a shady spot to rest. A seasonal pause in the park and trails through the floodplain and winegrowing landscape offer quite different experiences: one is a chance to relax amid greenery, the other to get active outdoors.

More leisure activities

The leisure activities also offer distinctly different experiences. Tattendorf Climbing Park has 64 obstacles across six courses. DINO Tattendorf displays 60 life-size dinosaurs across more than one hectare in the historic Dumba Park. At Schmetterlingwelt Tattendorf, a greenhouse filled with tropical plants, more than 500 special butterflies fly freely. When planning your visit, you can choose between different interests: climbing courses, dinosaurs, or tropical plants and butterflies.
