Kühnsdorf can be explored through several specific themes: the parish church combines a Romanesque core with a Gothic choir; the park, local choir and Rail-&-Trail hiking route offer other points of interest. For your stay, you can focus on architectural history, music events or route planning. Which aspect matters to you depends on whether you are planning to explore architecture, local choral culture or a hike connected to the railway station.
Parish Church and Park
Kühnsdorf Parish Church has a Romanesque core and a Gothic choir. The nave was extended in 1948, and there is a wooden porch on the west side. Different architectural elements and a specific extension therefore sit side by side as distinct clues to the building’s history. On the outside wall is an oversized fresco of Saint Christopher, attributed to the painter Medardus Skuk. Together, these features give a more detailed impression of the church than a single construction date could: they include the choir, nave, porch and exterior painting.
The Lobisser wayside shrine stands on the south side of Valentin-Leitgeb Park. The playground there was replaced with a new playground and new equipment in 2023. The park thus brings together different interests: a cultural feature and a play area. If you are considering different interests when choosing where to visit, you can view these park features separately from the architectural history of the parish church.
Choir and Event Dates
The Kühnsdorf Mixed Choir was founded by Johann Kopeinig in 1955. Its repertoire includes Carinthian songs, folk songs, art songs and sacred choral music, including masses. Local culture can therefore be explored not only through buildings but also through a broad choral repertoire.
Every year, the choir holds an Advent concert in Kühnsdorf Parish Church. The traditional Kühnsdorf parish fair was scheduled for September 13, 2026. The timing differs: the Advent concert is held annually, while the parish fair date given here is for 2026. If an event date is important to your trip, check the dates for the relevant year.
Rail and Trails
Kühnsdorf Klopeiner See station is one of the new stations on the Koralmbahn. The station also has a mobility office run by Kärntner Linien. The office’s specific operating details may change, so check the latest information in advance.
For the 2026 summer season, daily services on the Postbus See-Shuttle routes 763 and 764 were planned from May 1 to September 30. The shuttle ran directly from Kühnsdorf-Klopeiner See station to the lidos and lakes at Klopeiner See and Turnersee. For a later trip, check the timetable that applies at the time rather than carrying the 2026 dates over to another year.
The Rail-&-Trail hiking route connects Kühnsdorf Klopeiner See station with Klopein and leads back to the station. Check local trail conditions before setting out. For planning purposes, this route answers a different question from the shuttle, which is listed by season: it describes a walking route that returns to the station, not the bus connection to the lidos and lakes.
