Bodensdorf lies on Lake Ossiach, Carinthia’s third-largest lake. Alongside access to the lake, cultural and natural attractions are also important for finding your way around the village. You can tailor your stay to whether you want to spend time by the water, visit churches or explore the landscape and its excursion destinations.

Lake access points and finding your way around the waterfront

Bodensdorf Lido is located at Fischerweg 8. It offers the largest free lake access point on Lake Ossiach, as well as an adventure playground for children and a lakeside terrace with an appealing selection of food and drinks. Another free lake access point is Mini-Strand; it can only be reached on foot or by bicycle. These specific differences can help you choose the right lake access point.

Kurpark Bodensdorf is also located directly on Lake Ossiach. Benches and green spaces offer room for a short break. The Bodensdorf Tourist Information office is on the lake’s northern shore and can help you find your way around the area. Bodensdorf also has one of the eight boat stops on Lake Ossiach, for trips on the water. If you are planning to take a boat, check the timetable in advance. Seetaxi Steger also has a boat rental service; availability may vary by season.

Two churches from different periods

Bodensdorf is home to two churches built in very different periods. The modern hall church of St. Joseph on Lake Ossiach stands on the western edge of the village. It was built in 1929 to plans by Hans Prutscher. By contrast, the Catholic branch church of Old St. Joseph in Bodensdorf dates from the 17th century. Those interested in architectural history can compare a 20th-century church with a much older one without treating the two buildings as belonging to the same period.

Moorland, hiking and high-altitude destinations

The Bleistätter Moor in Bodensdorf is a biodiverse natural and scenic area, as well as a European protected area. It offers a different focus from the lidos and Kurpark: here, the protected landscape takes centre stage. In summer, Bodensdorf is an ideal starting point for hikes.

For an excursion to higher ground, the 13-kilometre Gerlitzen Panoramic Road leads directly from Bodensdorf to an altitude of 1,750 metres. The Gerlitzen Alpe can be reached by car from Bodensdorf. Peterlewand climbing garden is also located near St. Urban in Bodensdorf. Above the climbing garden, a pavilion offers sweeping views of the eastern shore of Lake Ossiach and Ossiach. Together, these provide different scenic points of reference: the altitude of the panoramic road, the Gerlitzen Alpe and the view from the pavilion across the lakeshore to Ossiach.

Dining by the lake

Café Pavillon am See serves Carinthian specialities made by small regional producers. The menu may change seasonally. If dining by the water is something you would like to include in your stay, you can make this stop a local highlight alongside the natural and cultural attractions.
