Wedderburn offers several distinct ways to shape a stay: bird motifs in large-scale murals, native bushland and its birdlife, local history, and a track by the reservoir. The five Birds Eye View Murals are spread throughout the town; at Wedderburn Cemetery, QR codes link to life stories of those buried there. At Hard Hill, visitors can see an old gold mine from the gold rush era. To help plan your visit, the Loddon Visitor Information Centre provides information and brochures on accommodation, attractions, tours, events and activities in the Loddon Valley and surrounding region.

Birdlife in Murals and Bushland

The five large Birds Eye View Murals are spread throughout Wedderburn and depict various bird species native to the region. This means you’ll encounter the bird theme in several murals around town, not just in a single image. Wedderburn’s native bushland is also closely connected to this theme: it is home to 180 bird species, including 20 classified as threatened by Bush Heritage Australia. Art and nature offer two distinct ways to experience the region’s birdlife. The murals depict native species; the species numbers refer to the bushland. If you choose Wedderburn for its natural and cultural connections, you can appreciate these two perspectives separately, without treating them as one and the same.

Life Stories and the Gold Rush Era

The Wedderburn Historical Records Museum has placed 75 QR codes on headstones at Wedderburn Cemetery. Visitors can use them to access audiovisual presentations about the life stories of those buried there. This connects each individual headstone with a personal life story that visitors can access on site. At Hard Hill, a different aspect of the past takes centre stage: visitors can walk up and see the old gold mine from the gold rush era. Hard Hill Tourist Reserve is on Wilson Street in Wedderburn. By comparison, the QR presentations focus on individual biographies, while the mine at Hard Hill evokes the gold rush era.

A Track by Wedderburn Reservoir

The 1.1 km Wedderburn Reservoir Track loops around the caravan park grounds, circles the reservoir and returns via the dam wall. Its length and the sections described give you concrete reference points for planning this walk. At the reservoir, the focus is on a route with a clearly specified length; at Hard Hill, it’s the climb and the view of the old gold mine. Which option better suits your stay depends on whether you prefer a waterside walk or the historic connection at the hill.

Plan Your Accommodation and Stay

If you’re looking for accommodation, the Loddon Visitor Information Centre in Wedderburn can be a useful starting point. It provides information and brochures on accommodation, as well as attractions, tours, events and activities in the Loddon Valley and surrounding region. This lets you consider accommodation information alongside a range of excursion ideas, rather than limiting your planning to a single attraction. The centre’s offerings cover both accommodation and ideas for different interests; they do not describe any individual accommodation providers. Details may change, so it’s a good idea to check the latest information before visiting. To decide what to focus on, you could first consider whether you’re most interested in birdlife, cemetery biographies, the gold rush era or the reservoir track. The centre’s information and brochures cover these different aspects of the region.
