For a trip to Lysterfield South, there are two distinct visitor attractions to choose from: Parkside Boulevard Playground, with its swings and play equipment, and Churchill National Park in the wider regional area. The park offers several types of trails, a lookout, and woodland and wildlife; the playground has different swing configurations and other play equipment.

Trails and views in Churchill National Park

In the wider regional area of Lysterfield South, Churchill National Park has walking, jogging and horse-riding trails. To plan your visit, you can first decide which of these activities you want to focus on. One specific trail destination is Stonemasons Track, which leads to Trig Point Lookout, offering 360-degree views of the park. The main entrance to Churchill National Park is accessible via Churchill Park Drive in Lysterfield South. Before your visit, check access requirements and current conditions with Parks Victoria.

There are two different ways to choose between an activity-focused park visit and a specific destination: you can focus on the type of activity or choose the lookout as the destination of Stonemasons Track. The lookout thus links a named trail with a clearly defined viewpoint.

Woodland and wildlife

The park consists of woodland and small areas of remnant forest, and is home to large populations of Eastern Grey Kangaroos and swamp wallabies. This landscape and wildlife add another dimension to the park beyond its trails. Wildlife sightings vary: the lookout is a specific destination on the track, while wildlife viewing cannot be planned with certainty. Consider the animals as something you may see during your visit.

Play options at Parkside Boulevard Playground

Parkside Boulevard Playground is set among trees in the reserve’s green space and is designed as an outdoor play area. Its swing sets have different features. One swing set has an inclusive basket seat. The other has a classic flat seat and a duo swing seat, where two people can maintain eye contact while swinging. So, to compare them directly, the number of swing sets is not the only factor: one is distinguished by its basket seat, the other by its flat seat and duo-swing feature.

Parkside Boulevard Playground also has a Ka’Yop tower and a Kanopé Multi Play Unit. Play options include sliding, climbing, balancing and swinging, as well as manipulative and cognitive activities. The facilities therefore go beyond the swings, offering several different types of play to help you plan your visit. The project was completed in 2023; individual features may change over time.

Choosing accommodation based on your travel interests

When looking for a holiday rental in Lysterfield South, you can turn the two attractions into a practical choice. If you want to focus on trails, views and nature watching, Churchill National Park is the regional destination for an outing. If you want to prioritise specific play options, Parkside Boulevard Playground offers a distinct focus.
