A stay in Corinella can be shaped around foreshore paths, viewpoints and local history. Corinella Foreshore Reserve surrounds the town. Its walking trails stretch for more than five kilometres along the shoreline—a useful guide when planning time for walks. The reserve’s landscape features native vegetation, coastal cliffs and four geological formations of state significance. The trails also offer the chance to experience the seascape, varied scenery, and the area’s native flora and fauna.

Coastal scenery and wildlife

Nature takes many forms in the reserve: alongside the cliffs and vegetation, native mammals, marsupials, birds and reptiles live there. A mangrove fringe is regenerating along the north coast. The birdlife can also be described by specific locations: groups of little pied cormorants can be seen on the rocky outcrops at Corinella Foreshore. Waders, including herons and cormorants, are found in the reserve; swans and other waterbirds live along the Corinella Foreshore Walk. Geology, coastal vegetation and wildlife are all among the things you can discover during a stay on the foreshore.

Views across Western Port

Several viewpoints offer different perspectives on the coast. Corinella Rotunda is a sheltered lookout. From there, you can see across Western Port to French Island, west along the coast to Settlement Point, and east across Pioneer Bay. The lookout at Settlement Point, Corinella Walk also offers views of the cliffs and coast of Western Port, as well as nearby French Island. From Corinella Jetty, you can also look across Western Port to French Island. When choosing viewpoints, you can consider whether you’re most interested in island views, stretches of coastline or several named directions.

History in town and at the jetty

The Corinella History Trail starts at Harold Hughes Reserve in the town centre, where there is also a playground. Corinella can lay claim to having been home to Victoria’s first Government House. Corinella Jetty is a historic pier where commercial and recreational fishing have taken place for more than a century. It offers berths for recreational boats on short stays and is a popular spot for recreational fishing. Alongside the area’s natural features, the trail and jetty highlight Corinella’s local history and fishing tradition.

Practical information for the waterfront

There is ample parking, a boat ramp and a beach on the foreshore in front of Corinella Jetty. Corinella also has four deep-water boat ramps, accessible at all tide levels. Even so, caution is advised at low to very low tide. At Settlement Point, a staircase with a floating pontoon gives walkers and land-based anglers access to the foot of the cliff. Its completion was reported in 2023. Check local conditions and signage before visiting.

If you’re looking for a hotel in Corinella, consider in advance whether you’d like to focus your time on the foreshore paths and nature, the viewpoints or local history. These priorities can help you tailor your accommodation search to your plans for the stay.
