In Mount Buangor State Park, eucalyptus forest, creek flats, waterfalls and steep rock escarpments shape the landscape. The park has a 15-kilometre network of trails; many routes lead into the adjoining Mount Cole State Forest. When planning, it is worth distinguishing the total length of this network from the distance of an individual trail. The specifically described routes sometimes give their own distances and walking times—these details help you better gauge how long an individual walk may take.

Hiking in Mount Buangor State Park

The Beeripmo Walk is a scenic two-day hike through Mt Cole State Forest and Mount Buangor State Park. It therefore covers both protected areas and differs considerably in stated scope from circuits with walking times of two or three hours. If you are weighing up a multi-day hike against a walk with a specified duration, this distinction is a useful starting point.

The Bukkertillible Walk leads to a huge granite arch resembling a cave, almost 100 metres wide and 15 metres high. For the circuits, distance and walking time provide more specific guidance: the Jenny Clayton Circuit is 8.5 kilometres long, takes two hours on foot and can also be cycled. The Mount Buangor Walk is a 10-kilometre circuit with a walking time of three hours. By comparison, it is 1.5 kilometres longer; the stated walking time is one hour more. The two-hour figure for the Jenny Clayton Circuit is a walking time, not a stated cycling time. Check current trail conditions and access in advance for the Bukkertillible Walk and both circuits.

Heritage in Buangor

The former Cobb & Co Staging Stables in Buangor served as a coach and horse-changing station. Their former role gives the site a distinct historical focus alongside the natural experiences in the park. The Stables are listed as state-protected heritage in Victoria. In recent years, they have also served as a venue for weddings, birthdays and other community events. If you are planning an event there, please confirm arrangements separately.

A drive through the rolling hills

A scenic drive along Old Geelong Road passes the Challicum Hills Wind Farm and offers views of rolling hills. It offers a different focus from the trails in the park: here, you experience the landscape on a drive rather than on a walking route. This can help you choose whether to focus on a named walk or a scenic road route.
