Belgrano Department can be planned around specific places and themes: Nogolí is known for water-based and outdoor activities, as well as local cuisine; Villa de la Quebrada for religious traditions and Stations of the Cross art. When searching for a holiday rental, focus on the places you want to make a priority during your stay. This keeps different destinations distinct as separate stops.

Religious Routes and Festivals

In Nogolí, the patron saint festival is celebrated every year on September 24. This religious and cultural festival draws worshippers from across the region. If you want to include the event in your travel plans, its fixed date provides a clear point of reference.

The Sendero de la Fe connects Villa de la Quebrada and Nogolí over a distance of 20 kilometres. It follows municipal roads in Nogolí and sections of Route 9, then climbs into the Sierras Centrales de San Luis in Belgrano Department. The 14 crosses along the Sendero de la Fe symbolise the Stations of the Cross.

Belgrano Department is also home to Villa de la Quebrada, where the Santo de la Quebrada is celebrated every year. The Stations of the Cross there comprise 62 Carrara marble sculptures, arranged in 14 groups that depict the stations of Jesus’s Way of the Cross. The traditional Stations of the Cross are considered cultural and historical heritage, as well as a symbol of religious devotion.

Water and Outdoor Activities

Embalse Los Manantiales is used for recreation and tourism. Fishing is an option there only outside the closed season. Dique Nogolí offers more opportunities for excursions, scenic walks and water-based activities; Dique y Embalse Nogolí is considered suitable for non-motorised sports.

The remansos of Nogolí have calm waters and are considered suitable for swimming and family outings. There are also opportunities for walking and hiking in the surrounding area. These nature-focused attractions complement the outdoor activities available in Nogolí: trekking, mountain biking, horse riding, abseiling and canoeing on Dique Nogolí. Birdwatching and observing native wildlife are also activities in Nogolí.

Routes and Scenery

The Ruta del Macizo Central runs for 47 kilometres between Nogolí and Río Grande. It crosses the highest section of the Sierras de San Luis and reaches 2,088 metres above sea level. This distinguishes it in both length and elevation from the 20-kilometre Sendero de la Fe, which connects Villa de la Quebrada and Nogolí.

Local Products and Choosing Where to Stay

Nogolí has historic and rural estancias, some of which offer food and rural tourism experiences. The Ruta del Olivo and local producers enrich the culinary offering with oils, sweets, honey and handmade products. These culinary highlights sit alongside the town’s religious and nature-focused themes.

When choosing where to stay, it helps to first distinguish between the main themes: Nogolí brings together the water, outdoor and culinary attractions mentioned above; Villa de la Quebrada has its own religious events and the Stations of the Cross. Check the exact location of your accommodation against the places you want to visit, rather than treating the destinations as a single excursion.

Villa de la Quebrada can be reached via National Route 146 or Provincial Route 3 (Autopista 25 de Mayo). As road conditions can change, it is advisable to check them before setting out.
