San Ramón De La Nueva Orán combines the city’s history with a range of cultural activities and events, from local history and archaeology to folklore, summer parades and motorsports. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing between cultural venues, weekend races and seasonal festivals—and checking dates before your visit.

City History and Cultural Venues

San Ramón De La Nueva Orán was founded on August 31, 1794, by Ramón García de León y Pizarro. The city is considered the last city founded by the Spanish in the late 18th century. The Museo Regional de Orán preserves the city’s past and supports the scientific study of local history and archaeology. The town’s founding history thus meets the study of its earlier cultures.

The Iglesia Catedral was built in 1977 with a modern, distinctive and attractive design. Visitors interested in architecture will find a different way to explore the city’s history here than at the Museo Regional: the focus is on the cathedral’s construction and its distinctive design.

The Casa de la Cultura offers ongoing activities to see, hear and learn. Its facilities include workshops, an amphitheater, exhibition spaces, its own cinema and a large library. This cultural venue therefore offers a range of formats: you may be interested in workshops and exhibitions as well as the cinema or library. Facilities and offerings may change; check what is currently available before your visit.

Plazas, Races and Events

Plaza General Pizarro has paths, a variety of old trees, a fountain and statues. Weekly cultural activities are held in one of the city’s central event plazas, including the Feria de Manos Oranenses and the Feria de las Colectividades. If you would like to plan your visit around one of these events, check the current dates.

At Kartódromo Salvador Hernández, you can watch kart races in various categories and FZ-category motorcycle races on the track. The municipal description lists races every weekend; as schedules may change, check the current date before your visit.

The August celebrations in honor of the patron saint San Ramón Nonato include a procession through the city center, ending at the cathedral with a large fireworks display. Dates and programs may vary, so it is advisable to check the latest information in advance.

The Festival de Orán, also known as Festi Orán, is a folklore festival commemorating the city’s founding and the patron saint celebrations in honor of San Ramón Nonato. The eve of the feast day and the evening after it are two of the festival’s three nights.

Another seasonal tradition is the summer Corsos Color parades in Orán. They feature colorful local comparsas, murgas, tinkus and traditional Bolivian “Pim Pim” comparsas. The events therefore differ not only in purpose but also in form: the August procession and fireworks are joined by a folklore festival and summer parades.

Departamento Orán in Its Regional Context

The Parque Provincial Laguna Pintascayo is located in the wider Departamento Orán and preserves 13,000 hectares of Yungas forest. This regional point of interest adds a landscape dimension at the department level to the city’s cultural and historical attractions.
