Villa Mascardi and Villa Traful are part of Nahuel Huapi National Park. Several trails and visitor sites are in the surrounding area, not within Villa Mascardi itself.
Cycling Routes and Lakeshores at Lago Guillelmo
The cycling route at Lago Guillelmo is about 8 kilometers long; this distance refers to the one-way trip. It follows the former route of National Route 40 along the eastern shore, offering lake views for long stretches and ending at a broad shore at the southern end of the lake. The route is considered easy, although the surface is rocky in places. Ride slowly there and always wear a helmet. As conditions can change seasonally, check them before setting out. The trailhead is at a bridge, reached by a gravel road about 2 kilometers long; there is space to park vehicles at the bridge.
At BahĂa Mansa, a paved path follows the former route of the road to El BolsĂłn. Pedestrians and cyclists share it; after 400 meters, it leads to a sandy beach on the lake. This means there are two distinct types of route at Lago Guillelmo: a longer cycling trip along the eastern shore and a shorter shared path to the beach.
Lago Guillelmo is suitable for day trips, camping and fishing. Playa Huinca on the eastern shore offers camping facilities and a cycling route along the lake. Campamento Playa Huinca has a camping area, restroom facilities, showers, a supply store and a boat ramp; access is via Villa Mascardi. Available facilities may vary, so check conditions before your visit.
Other Trails in the Surrounding Area
At Lago Mascardi, the trail from Arroyo Fresco to Playa Leones follows the shore when the water level is low enough; when the water is high, use the forest trail. If you are considering the shoreline route, take the water level into account when planning. The trail at Los Rápidos is suitable for birdwatching and has only a gentle incline. When choosing between them, water levels are the main consideration at Arroyo Fresco, while birdwatching and the gentle incline are the main features at Los Rápidos.
The Guardaparques station is located at the turnoff to Cascada Los Alerces, about 300 meters after passing through Villa Mascardi. There is also an entrance-fee collection point, tourist information and restroom facilities there. A 300-meter boardwalk leads to a viewpoint at Cascada Los Alerces. Access conditions may vary seasonally; please check them before your visit.
An A.C.A. gas station is located opposite Villa Mascardi. If you are relying on it for fuel or supplies, check in advance whether it is currently open.
