The EstaciĂłn de Ferrocarril in Senillosa dates back to 1913, and the Paseo de la Costa along the river is two kilometers long. These two themes give the town distinct focal points: railway and local history on one hand, and time by the water on the other. A remarkable replica of a house and a museum with historical and archaeological objects offer a deeper look into the past. This gives you several themes to focus on when planning, without prescribing a single itinerary.

Railway Heritage and the Town’s History

The EstaciĂłn de Ferrocarril dates back to 1913. Senillosa is also home to a preserved steam locomotive that serves as a monument. The station and locomotive offer distinct historical points of reference: one is a railway site with a precise date, the other a technical object preserved as a monument. If you are interested in the development of the railway, you can consider these two facts as separate aspects of the local heritage.

Another special feature is the Réplica Casa Histórica de Tucumán. It is the only replica of the Casa de la Independencia in all of Patagonia. Its name makes clear its connection to a specific historic building; its uniqueness beyond the region gives it a different focus from the railway station and locomotive monument.

The Museo Histórico y Arqueológico preserves historical and archaeological objects related to Senillosa’s development since the late 19th century and the Indigenous settlement of the area. The collection thus spans different periods: the town’s history and the region’s earlier settlement. Compared with the individual railway exhibits, the museum offers a broader view of Senillosa’s development. Together, these themes provide a cultural overview that is not limited to a single building or era.

The Paseo de la Costa and the Riverside

The Paseo de la Costa starts at the riverside parador and ends at the Los Mimbres municipal campground. It is two kilometers long. Several access points to the river and a lookout point add to the route description. This identifies the start, endpoint, and other landmarks along the Paseo. If you include the river area in your plans, you can consider the various access points and the lookout point as different features of this riverside path. It is best to check the current facilities on site before your visit.

Senillosa’s riverside area has a campground and a recreation and sports area. Both are used year-round by residents and visitors. This offers a different perspective from the clearly defined route of the Paseo: here, the riverside area as a space in use is the focus, while the route description sets out the length, access points, and lookout point. When planning your trip, you can decide whether to focus on a specific path or on the broader recreational and sports opportunities by the river.

Wine and Other Highlights in Departamento Confluencia

On a wider scale, the meeting of the Limay and Neuquén rivers forms the Río Negro and gives Departamento Confluencia its name. This geographic feature offers a distinct regional point of reference. It is separate from Senillosa’s local themes and should not be confused with the route of the Paseo de la Costa in Senillosa.

Two wineries in Senillosa also offer their own highlights. Bodega Puerta Oeste offers vineyard tours, insights into the production process, and personalized tastings with views of the valley. At Bodega Fincas del Limay, offerings include vineyard tours, visits to the modern production facility, and guided tastings. The difference lies in the details: Puerta Oeste highlights personalized tastings and valley views, while Fincas del Limay offers a tour of its production facility. Check in advance which offerings are available and whether reservations are possible.

Other cultural attractions in Departamento Confluencia are located in other named places. At the Museo Ernesto Bachmann in Villa El Chocón, you can see original remains of Giganotosaurus carolinii, as well as a scale replica of its 195-centimeter-long skull. At the Museo de Sitio Las Huellas, visitors can view dinosaur tracks on the shore of Lago Ezequiel Ramos Mexía from two boardwalks under the open sky. These museums focus on paleontology, while the museum in Senillosa looks at the town’s development and the Indigenous settlement of the area.
