Neuquén brings together riverside scenery, art and city history. The Limay and Neuquén rivers form natural boundaries of the city, with riverside promenades along both. There are also museums with different areas of focus and a prominent lookout point above the city. You can choose what to explore in Neuquén based on the themes you want your trip to focus on.

Riverfront and Views over the City

The Paseo de la Costa covers 14 kilometers of riverfront along the Río Limay and extends to the Río Neuquén. It offers a clear reference point if you want to explore the rivers’ locations and the areas along their banks. From the northern Barda area, the Balcón del Valle offers panoramic views over Neuquén. The riverside promenades and lookout point therefore offer two different perspectives on the city: the course of its rivers and a view from above.

Art, City History and Archaeology

The MNBA Neuquén houses a permanent collection of Argentine art from different eras and styles. The Museo de la Ciudad Paraje Confluencia has a different focus: as Neuquén’s historical museum, its galleries tell the stories of the city’s first residents, their experiences and their activities. Together, the two museums offer art and local history as distinct themes to explore on a trip.

The city’s architectural history and archaeology add to this picture. Torre Talero is the oldest building in Neuquén and was declared a National Historic Monument in 2015 under Law No. 27,129. At Parque Central, the Museo Gregorio Álvarez features an archaeological exhibition spanning more than 6,000 years, along with temporary art exhibitions. The cultural offerings thus range from a historic building and the stories of the city’s residents to archaeological and art exhibitions.

Getting There by Air

Direct flights from Argentina’s major cities arrive at Neuquén’s Juan Domingo Perón Airport. As flight routes can change, check current schedules before your trip.
