Maipú can be explored through several cultural points of interest: wine-growing history at Área Giol, a range of museum themes, and a theater with a film program. Which of these aspects interests you most may influence your choice of destination and accommodation.

Wine-Growing History at Área Giol

The Museo Nacional del Vino y la Vendimia is part of Área Giol in downtown Maipú and is housed in Chalet Gargantini. The Giol-Gargantini chalet complex comprises Casa Gargantini, Casa Giol, and the villa colloquially known as “Casita de las Muñecas.” The museum site is therefore part of an ensemble of three named buildings.

Today’s Parque Metropolitano de Maipú is also part of Área Giol in downtown. The former Bodega Giol is a key reference point in efforts to preserve and promote the cultural memory of regional and national wine-growing history. Together, these places give wine-growing history a tangible connection to Maipú’s buildings and urban space, although they do not serve the same function: the museum, chalet complex, park, and former winery are each distinct points of interest.

Museums, Cinema, and Public Landmarks

The Museo Malvinas explores a different subject: it displays original relics from the 1982 conflict, as well as memorials to those who fell. These include a cenotaph and crosses commemorating the 649 soldiers who died in combat. The remembrance of the conflict thus sits alongside—but is clearly distinct in subject from—the wine-growing history presented at the Museo Nacional del Vino y la Vendimia.

Cine Teatro Imperial is located at Pablo Pescara 323 in Ciudad de Maipú. Its program combines productions by the Instituto Nacional de Cine y Artes Audiovisuales (INCAA) with commercial new releases, and caters to all audience groups. In 2024, the municipal Maipú Rock program held a series there featuring local musicians. If you are planning a visit to the cinema, it is worth checking the current schedule.

Another local landmark is the Toro de Giol monument at the northwest corner of Plaza 12 de Febrero. It is considered a symbol of tradition and strength. Visitors choosing among Maipú’s cultural sites by theme can distinguish between wine-growing and remembrance history, film, and public art.

The Wider Destination of Departamento Maipú

For a broader view of the region, it is helpful to distinguish between the city and Departamento Maipú: the Maipú Wine Route extends across the entire department. More than 40 wineries there are open to visitors. The municipal tourism map of Maipú contains more than 200 points of interest distributed throughout the department; it was published in July 2026. Information and availability may change, so check current details when making specific plans.

Olive oil culture is also part of the wider destination of Departamento Maipú. Eight olive oil producers make products for tourists and locals to enjoy. In Cruz de Piedra, within the department, Olivícola Laur offers guided tours of its Acetaia and olive oil production, led by specialist guides and sommeliers. Reservations and details about this offering may change; check before planning your visit.

Other named points of interest in Departamento Maipú include the Museo del Vino at Bodegas La Rural, which was declared of tourist interest in 1990, and Paseo de los Eucaliptus, designated as cultural and forestry heritage of the department. You should check the museum’s current accessibility separately. These regional attractions complement the city’s cultural sites, but the Wine Route, producers, and Paseo should not be conflated with the city center.
