María Grande combines the Termas de María Grande with forest and urban experiences. For trip planning, different highlights stand side by side: saltwater pools in a large forest area and urban heritage encompassing a clock, theater, museum and former railway surroundings. If you are looking for a hotel, you can first decide whether thermal baths, nature or culture should shape your stay. These places offer concrete points of interest to help you plan.

Saltwater Pools and Landscape

The Termas de María Grande grounds cover 47 hectares of native forest that is about 200 years old and crossed by a ravine. Nine saltwater pools are set in this landscape, three of them covered. Water temperatures range from 39 °C to 46.5 °C. For your travel plans, you can consider these two features separately: the pools, whose number is specified, and the forest grounds with their ravine.

The Paseo de la Cañada offers a different landscape focus. This nature trail runs along an old watercourse; spring water and the city’s natural drainage create a range of biomes there. The nature reserve on the southern edge of María Grande showcases the native flora of the local forest and offers glimpses of its birdlife. These natural areas therefore differ in focus: the Paseo’s description highlights the watercourse and drainage, while the reserve emphasizes forest flora and birdlife. The Paseo de la Cañada also has a barbecue area that serves as a place to stop and enjoy grilled food.

Urban Heritage and Public Spaces

Built in 1949, the municipal clock stands at the intersection of Avenidas Argentina, Córdoba and San Martín, on the eastern edge of the Plazoleta. It is considered a landmark of María Grande. The Cine Teatro Don Santiago is designated as part of the city’s architectural, historical and cultural heritage. Its surviving features include its eclectic architectural style, original ceiling, original floors and box seats.

The Museo Histórico Municipal was founded to preserve the city’s cultural, historical and institutional heritage. Plaza Centenario offers another connection to the city’s history: it is a tree-lined promenade between the former railway sheds. The clock, theater, museum and plaza thus represent different facets of urban heritage, from a named landmark to preserved architecture and the former railway surroundings.

The municipal amphitheater hosts peñas and performances. It is located in a landscaped park with children’s play equipment. If you are planning to attend a particular performance, check its dates before your trip.

Getting There
