In Ceibas, nature and local history come together: the area’s ecotourism setting includes wetlands, grasslands, woodland and waterways. When planning your trip, you can therefore compare different interests—wildlife watching, activities on the water, routes through the landscape and the historic center.

Wetlands and Wildlife

More than 250 animal species can be found in the area around Ceibas, with the nature reserve receiving particular emphasis. Habitats in this area include Ñandubay and Espinillo woodlands, low-lying areas that are permanently or seasonally wet, and higher grassland areas. Gallery forests line canals and streams such as the Martínez; these waterways drain into the nearby Río Uruguay. The regional landscape is thus a combination of different wetland and grassland areas, along with wooded waterways.

Birdwatching, Fishing and Outdoor Activities

Birdwatching is a particular highlight in Ceibas, especially in connection with its nature reserve. Fishing is one of the activities visitors to Ceibas search for most often. Boat trips travel along the river and into its inner side channels. These options offer different ways to spend your time: you can focus on observing wildlife, consider a trip on the water, or make fishing a bigger part of your stay.

You can also choose to explore the landscape on foot or by bicycle: Ceibas’s scenery is suited to walking and cycling, and rural roads pass through wetlands and fields. Wildlife watching and getting around in the landscape are two different ways to experience the area’s natural attractions. You can take into account which of these you want to shape your stay when planning your days.

Historic Center and Road Connections

Ceibas’s historic center preserves old buildings and churches. It adds a cultural perspective on the town to the nature-focused attractions. Travelers can therefore consider the landscape and local history as separate interests when deciding what to focus on during their trip.

The road connections also help orient visitors: Ceibas lies at a junction where National Routes 12 and 14 split. This is a different way of locating the town than considering what you would like to do there. The main local visitor attractions are the wetlands, wildlife, outdoor activities and historic center.

Regional Context: GualeguaychĂş Dept

Beyond Ceibas, the broader destination of Gualeguaychú Dept offers its own regional perspective. The tourism and cultural microregion “Pueblos y Aldeas del Sur Entrerriano” brings together, among other things, the Camino del Vino, the Circuito de las Aldeas, the Ruta de las Pulperías and a railway circuit. It also includes cycling and motorcycle tourism, as well as ecotourism. This thematic framework expands the department-wide picture to include cultural and nature offerings, while the landscapes and attractions described above relate specifically to Ceibas.

In Urdinarrain, the Complejo La Estación houses the Museo Regional Histórico, the Museo Rural de Carruajes and the Museo Regional Agrícola al aire libre. The seven-hectare site is in the city center, and the old railway station has been restored. The three museums offer different regional perspectives: history, rural carriages and open-air agriculture. The complex thus complements Ceibas’s natural and local history with other cultural themes from Gualeguaychú Dept.

Another option in Urdinarrain is the Circuito HistĂłrico Autoguiado. It can be explored free of charge year-round on foot, by bicycle or by car. Urdinarrain also hosts festivals throughout the year, including the Fiesta Provincial del Caballo and the Fiesta Regional de la Cerveza. If you would like to plan your trip around an event, check the specific dates in advance.
