Wetlands, lagoons and an estuary shape the discoveries awaiting you in General Lavalle Partido. Parque Nacional Campos del TuyĂş covers 3,000 hectares of the Pampas ecoregion and protects a wetland connected to a natural estuary that is of high conservation value. Protected landscapes include lagoons, wetlands, crab flats, cortaderal grasslands, espartillo grasslands and tala woodlands. The park also protects the Pampas deer (Ozotoceros bezoarticus). This natural diversity forms a striking contrast with the cultural and leisure activities available in the partido.

Birdwatching and RĂa AjĂł

Avistaje de Aves offers responsible nature excursions along country roads and through natural areas of the partido. Native and migratory birds can be observed in wetlands and lagoons. The Pampas birding tour takes a different approach: its birdwatching hikes pass through woodlands, lagoons, grasslands and crab flats in the southern part of BahĂa SamborombĂłn, within the partido. The descriptions therefore differ in their format: one involves excursions along roads and through natural areas, while the other offers birdwatching hikes through several types of landscape.

Another way to experience Ría Ajó is to take a kayak excursion from Puerto de la Ría Ajó, led by Amgaa Yacht Club. Check the operator’s information before your trip. Including nature observation, hiking or an activity on the water in your plans gives you different ways to explore the landscapes of the partido.

A walking tour of General Lavalle

The town of General Lavalle is the administrative seat of the partido of the same name and can be reached via Ruta Interbalnearia Nº 11. The free historical walking tour through the Casco Urbano takes you through the town’s historical and cultural heritage. The itinerary includes a walk through the port area, a visit to Museo Regional Santos Vega and a stop at Ría Ajó.

At Museo Regional Santos Vega, you can explore a chronology of local history and materials related to Santos Vega. The collection also includes rural objects and a recreation of a pulperĂa. As part of the walking tour, the museum visit can be combined with the port area and RĂa AjĂł; together, the three stops offer a progression through local history, everyday culture and waterside landscapes.

History, festivals and local culture

The signposted Paseo por los Saladeros de Pedro Luro focuses on the remains of the 19th-century saladero industry. If you are planning a guided visit, make separate arrangements. Another chapter of local culture centers on Santos Vega: the Fiesta Nacional Semana de Santos Vega has been held every year since 1948, on the second weekend of March, in honor of the gaucho payador. Check the dates for the year of your trip. At festivals in General Lavalle, you can also experience local cuisine and crafts from producers in the town.

Plaza Arirang also brings together different aspects of public life in the urban center. It has children’s play areas, barbecue grills, an amphitheater and a pier. Paseo de la Rivera “Islas Malvinas” is a tourist recreation area and port district with views of the sunset. Alongside historical discoveries, there are also places to relax and enjoy leisure activities.

Art and leisure activities

Metales Salvajes Campo El Carrizal features more than 70 metal sculptures by artist Alejandro Curtto, with subjects connected to the wildlife of the Pampas grasslands. Costa Salvaje offers life-size animatronic, static and sound-activated dinosaurs, as well as other attractions, games, a food court and barbecue grills. Check current operating information before visiting. PoseidĂłn offers swimming pools, water slides and games for the whole family; check current operations and access in advance.

When looking for accommodation, you can start with your interests: history on the town tour and at the museum, birdwatching in wetlands, or leisure activities and art. The town of General Lavalle can be reached via Ruta Interbalnearia NÂş 11. Road conditions and transport services may change, so plan your journey using up-to-date information.
