La Noria can be understood through winegrowing, history, and the surrounding natural environment. As a local project, Finca Don Atilio brings together a vineyard and winery; La María estate and La Noria railway station provide different points of reference for the area’s history. Arroyo Totoral adds a natural feature from the surrounding area. In the wider destination of Partido Cañuelas, cultural sites in Uribelarrea offer a distinct regional perspective.

Winegrowing at Finca Don Atilio

The Finca Don Atilio project, with its vineyard and winery, covers two hectares in Paraje La Noria. The vineyard and winery make winegrowing tangible here as a specific local project. On March 25, 2018, the first Fiesta de la Vendimia of Cañuelas was held at the estate. The festival date adds a dated cultural reference to the agricultural connection. The described visitor experience combines a tour of the winery and vineyard with a subsequent tasting of the estate’s own wines and sparkling wines. Check in advance whether a tour is available on your preferred date.

Estate and railway station: historical points of reference

La María estate includes a 120-year-old main house set within six hectares of tree-filled grounds. The main house and grounds give the estate two distinct scales: a specific building and a tree-filled area. La Noria railway station is also part of the area’s history. Its operation was authorized on August 29, 1904. In this way, a historic estate and a precisely dated milestone in the station’s history offer different perspectives.

Nature in the surrounding area

Arroyo Totoral rises in the nearby town of Cañuelas, close to Paraje La Noria. The watercourse runs 37 kilometers before reaching Laguna de Monte. Herons, coots, ducks, grebes, and coypus are commonly found at nearby Arroyo Totoral. This provides a specific point of reference for nature watching, although sightings of individual animals are not guaranteed.

In Uribelarrea, the Santuario de Nuestra Señora de Luján is a Neo-Gothic church designed by Pedro Benoit and inaugurated in 1890. The Museo de Máquinas y Herramientas Leopoldo Rizzi is housed in the former shed of the railway station built in 1892. It displays items relating to the history of rural work and agricultural production in the partido. The regional cultural perspective therefore ranges from religious architecture to the history of work and agriculture.

El Castillo, the former Finaco factory in Uribelarrea, is an example of local industrial architecture from the 1930s. Plaza Centenario is in the historic town center and has an octagonal layout; its diagonals meet in the middle. Uribelarrea thus brings together different architectural themes: a church, industrial architecture, and the design of a central square.

As a general guide to the region, Partido Cañuelas is about 45 minutes from the city of Buenos Aires and a little over an hour from La Plata, the provincial capital. Treat these times as a guide, not as a fixed travel duration for a specific route.
