Chingola is characterized by an abundance of trees and flowers; the higher rainfall in this part of the country is reflected in the greenery of its suburbs. This green cityscape defines the town itself; the Nchanga Golf Club also offers a specific sporting attraction.

Golf in Chingola

The Nchanga Golf Club has an 18-hole championship parkland-style course. The club offers several tee options for golfers of different skill levels. If golf is a priority, the different tees can be a specific factor to consider when choosing a course.

Chimfunshi Nearby

Near Chingola is the Chimfunshi Wildlife Orphanage, a chimpanzee sanctuary in the Copperbelt. It is located between Chingola and Solwezi; the approximate travel time from Chingola is one hour and 30 minutes and may vary depending on road and travel conditions. Chimfunshi recommends arriving in your own car so you can drive between the sanctuary’s different areas. This is a recommendation, not a requirement. The travel time and the recommendation to use your own car address different planning questions: how long it takes to reach the sanctuary and how to get around between its areas.

The Copperbelt: Nature, Culture and Mining History

The Copperbelt adds distinct natural, cultural and industrial destinations to a visit to Chingola. The sinkhole lake Lake Kashiba is in Mpongwe. Activities there include birdwatching, catch-and-release fishing, picnicking, camping and swimming. This offers a choice of interests, with nature observation and several water-based activities side by side. In catch-and-release fishing, the catch is released back into the water.

The Copperbelt Museum in Ndola was founded in 1962. It currently has three exhibition galleries: geology, ethnography and children’s toys; exhibition details may change. The education department develops programs for museum visitors.

Lake Kashiba and the museum in Ndola cater to different interests: nature observation and water-based activities on the one hand, and geology, ethnography and children’s toys on the other. This makes it possible to choose regional destinations according to your preferred focus.

Luanshya is also a point of interest for industrial history: Zambia’s oldest copper mine is located there. A visit to the mine in Chingola is possible, but requires authorization from the mine office. Confirm the process with the office in advance, as it may change.

At Mindolo Dam, about seven kilometers southwest of Kitwe city center on Kalulushi Road, there is a boating club, a swimming pool and a bar. These facilities may change; check the current status before visiting.
