On Pewaukee Lake: Beach and Boating

The City of Pewaukee encompasses approximately 43 percent of Pewaukee Lake, which offers opportunities for boating. At Pewaukee's public beach, both the beach and parking are free. Swimming is at your own risk, and there are no lifeguards. Lakefront Park closes at 10 p.m. If you plan to visit the beach, keep the closing time in mind and check current parking information before your visit. Boating is one of the lake's activities; at the Public Beach, the specific planning considerations are costs, swimming conditions and the park's closing time.

Trails with Different Features

The Lake Country Trail in Pewaukee is 15 miles long and follows the former route of the Milwaukee-Watertown Interurban Railway. The Fox River Trail is three miles long and runs between the City of Pewaukee and the City of Brookfield. Its starting point is on Watertown Road in Pewaukee; from there, the trail passes through scenic wetlands and wooded areas to Brookfield Road in Brookfield. The trail lengths can be compared directly: 15 miles for the Lake Country Trail and three miles for the Fox River Trail. Another point of comparison is their different focus: the former railway route gives the Lake Country Trail its historical context, while the Fox River Trail's landscapes and endpoints are specifically described.

Nearby, in the Village of Pewaukee, is Simmons Woods. The park covers 48 acres and has three distinct trails and a boardwalk through the marsh. Unlike the two named trails, the park's key features are a specific number of trails and the boardwalk.

Local History in the Village of Pewaukee

The Clark House Museum in the Village of Pewaukee invites visitors to explore its museum exhibits and the Steele Family Exhibit Building. It commemorates Asa Clark, the first white settler in Pewaukee. Today's exhibits, images and artifacts show what life was like in the early 20th century in the Village of Pewaukee and in the then-Town of Pewaukee, now the City of Pewaukee. While the museum explores local life in that era, the Lake Country Trail recalls the former Interurban Railway. These are two different historical perspectives on Pewaukee.

Sports and Events

The Pewaukee Sports Complex brings together several named attractions in one place: it has four baseball fields with artificial-turf infields, and Pewaukee Youth Baseball hosts tournaments there. The complex also includes the inclusive Play Pewaukee playground and Garrison's Splash Pad. Both were open on September 6, 2026; operations may vary by season. Check current information before your visit.

The Lake Country Canine Carnival is an annual event led by the City of Pewaukee Parks and Recreation Department. At the Carnival, HAWS and other local animal welfare organizations promote adoptions, dog sports and social interaction. If you would like to plan your trip around the Carnival, check the specific event date.
