Napavine offers several things to explore during a stay: the wheelchair-accessible Napavine Community Park with a small playground and swings, the outdoor amphitheater, which is currently used as an RC racetrack, and the Funtime Festival. Early settlement history and the first sawmill add historical topics to the recreational offerings. If you’re looking for a vacation rental, you can start by considering whether your trip is driven more by recreational activities, a particular festival date, or Napavine’s history.

Park, Amphitheater, and RC Racetrack

Napavine Community Park has a small playground with swings and is wheelchair-accessible. This may be relevant when planning if you want to take a playground or wheelchair access into account. The Napavine Amphitheater is an outdoor venue for concerts and events and is currently used as the Napavine RC Racetrack. This gives it a different focus from the playground. The RC racetrack has an unpaved oval track for racing and an area for rock crawling.

Funtime Festival: Check Your Travel Dates

The Napavine Funtime Festival takes place every year on the third weekend in July. If the festival is the reason for your trip, check the exact dates for your preferred year before planning.

How Napavine Got Its Name

In the early 1850s, Horace H. Pinto intended to claim land near present-day Napavine, at the crossroads on Cowlitz Prairie. John Cutting filed the claim before him. Pinto then received two acres of land, where he built his store and post office. Pinto had named the place Napawyna; James Urquhart later changed the name to Napavine. This separates two steps in the town’s history: Pinto’s earlier name and Urquhart’s later change. The sequence of events regarding the land claim is also important: Pinto initially intended to claim it and subsequently received two acres, where the store and post office were established.

The First Sawmill and the Railroad

Another aspect of local history is Napavine’s first sawmill. The Northern Pacific Railroad built it to produce railroad ties. This provides a concrete link between industrial history and the railroad, complementing the account of Pinto, the store, the post office, and the town’s name with another aspect of local development.

Combining Your Travel Plans and Accommodation Search

You can choose from several different focuses when planning your trip: a recreational spot, concerts and events, the RC racetrack, or the town’s history. If Napavine’s history is your main interest, you can use the sequence of Pinto, the name change, and the sawmill to guide your plans. That way, you can align your travel dates with the reason for your visit rather than combining different topics into a single itinerary.
