At Klineline Pond in Salmon Creek Regional Park, there is a designated swimming beach as well as fishing and viewing platforms. The Salmon Creek Greenway passes through a landscape of lowlands, wetlands, and wooded slopes on both sides of Salmon Creek. The Klineline Kids Fishing Event complements these nature and water activities with an annual fishing event for children.
Water at Klineline Pond
The designated swimming beach is at Klineline Pond. Seasonal beach conditions and advisories may change; check them before your visit. Fishing and viewing platforms are also located at the pond. Boats, canoes, kayaks, rafts, and air mattresses are not allowed there. If you’re planning time by the water, check the current rules before you arrive.
Greenway and Trails
The Salmon Creek Greenway runs along Salmon Creek between Lake River in Felida and Salmon Creek Regional Park/Klineline Pond in Hazel Dell, as well as along the northern end of Cougar Creek. This corridor includes lowlands, wetlands, and wooded slopes on both sides of Salmon Creek.
Over a three-mile stretch, the Salmon Creek Greenway Trail passes areas featuring information about wildlife, natural salmon runs, and restored wetlands. Herons and nesting ducks visit these wetlands. The paved, shared-use trail is suitable for walking, jogging, cycling, and horseback riding.
For a shorter trail section, compare the Cougar Creek Trail with the Greenway Trail: at 0.5 miles long, it is considerably shorter than the Greenway Trail’s three miles. The Cougar Creek Trail is relatively flat, six feet wide, and has a water-bound gravel surface. It connects Northwest 119 Street with the Salmon Creek Trail and runs along Cougar Creek. The details about length, surface, and use offer different points of reference when choosing a trail.
Picnicking and the Fishing Event
Salmon Creek Regional Park has two reservable picnic shelters. If you’d like to plan on using one, check reservation options for your preferred date.
More than 3,000 children ages five to 14 participate in the annual Klineline Kids Fishing Event, including about 500 people with special needs. Their parents also attend the event. Each registered participant receives a free Zebco fishing rod and reel, bait, and an event T-shirt, and can learn about and try fishing. If you’d like to plan your trip around the event, check the dates in advance.
More than 300 volunteers set up rods, bait hooks, help with casting, and clean the catch during the event. They also run a variety of educational and entertainment activities for children. The event therefore combines hands-on opportunities to learn about fishing with support from a large team of volunteers.
