Alcoa can be explored through a range of travel interests: paved trails for a bike ride, the Alcoa Duck Pond in Springbrook Park, and a city history closely tied to aluminum production. When planning, you can first decide whether outdoor activities or history will be the main draw. Another notable cultural attraction is Millennium Manor Castle, which took several years to build.

Enjoy the Outdoors: Springbrook Park and Greenway

The Alcoa Duck Pond is part of the larger Springbrook Park grounds. Visitors will find a fishing pier at the pond. The park stretches along Springbrook Road from Alcoa High School to Hunt Road. Those interested in fishing will find a clear landmark at the pond; the two stated endpoints help put the larger park area into perspective.

The Alcoa-Maryville Greenway includes more than 18 miles of paved trails running through Alcoa and Maryville. For a bike ride, this distance is a useful guide when planning your day. Unlike the single fishing pier at Duck Pond, the focus here is a longer route through two cities. Together, the park and Greenway offer different ways to spend time outdoors.

City History and Culture

The development of Alcoa’s city area followed several land purchases by the Aluminum Company of America in 1910. Construction of the town site from which the city grew began in 1917. The Little Tennessee River and its tributaries were considered a good source of the hydropower needed for aluminum production. In this sequence, the land purchases, the start of town construction, and the industry’s energy supply are distinct steps in the city’s development.

Millennium Manor Castle

Millennium Manor Castle is a castle in Alcoa whose architecture is modeled on a Roman castle. Construction began in June 1937 and was completed in December 1946. This construction period places the castle in its own historical context alongside the earlier development of the city area.

A tourism profile dated July 17, 2023, lists public tours on summer weekends from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., by appointment only. It lists prices of $15 per person or a maximum of $40 for up to eight people. Before visiting, check whether the tours and these terms are still in effect.

The Songs by the Brook concert series focuses on Americana, folk, and blues performances by regional and local musicians. Travelers who consider music when choosing a destination will find a clearly defined musical focus here.
