A field of rocks that can ring when struck adds an unusual note to Bucks: at Ringing Rocks Park, rocks can sound like bells. The 123-acre park is home to Bucks County’s largest waterfall, High Falls. A gentle five-minute walk leads there from the boulder field. As trail conditions vary by season, follow posted guidance and check conditions before your visit.

State Parks and Waterscapes

Nockamixon State Park covers 5,286 acres in the rolling hills of Bucks County. The 1,450-acre Lake Nockamixon is fed by Tohickon Creek, Three Mile Run and Haycock Run. The lake has four boat ramps, a marina and boat rentals. If you plan to rent a boat, check availability in advance.

Tyler State Park also offers a landscape shaped by water: Neshaminy Creek winds through the 1,711-acre park and divides it into several areas. The park is open daily from 8:00 a.m. until sunset; check opening hours before setting out. Tohickon Creek flows through Ralph Stover State Park. The High Rocks section offers a viewpoint overlooking the creek—a different perspective on the same waterway.

Washington Crossing Historic Park preserves the site where George Washington crossed the Delaware River during the American Revolution; it is a National Historic Landmark. The park includes historic buildings and walking trails, as well as fishing opportunities and a launch site for non-motorized boats. The 125-foot-high Bowman’s Hill Tower offers views across the Delaware River Valley. Check seasonal access to the tower before your visit.

History, Art and Craftsmanship

In Bucks County, you can also discover history through craftsmanship and materials. Moravian Pottery and Tile Works is a historic tile factory that has been producing ceramic art tiles from Bucks County wild clay since 1898. The site is also a National Historic Landmark. The Mercer Museum presents more than 60 early American crafts, offering a broader look at the skilled work of the period.

At Fonthill Castle, handmade tiles shape the interiors, which feature numerous original examples. The castle has more than 44 rooms, 18 fireplaces and 200 windows. One-hour guided tours are offered; as tour formats may change, check the tour options when planning your visit.

The Michener Art Museum is housed within the preserved stone walls and façade of the former 19th-century Bucks County jail. At the Pearl S. Buck House, visitors can see the desk where Pearl S. Buck wrote the novel “The Good Earth.” The site also includes the cultural center, gardens and seasonal special exhibitions. Check their dates in advance.

Local Experiences and Practical Information

For a taste of the local brewing scene, the Bucks County Ale Trail uses a digital pass to guide visitors to more than 30 craft breweries. Participating breweries and rewards may change, so it’s worth checking the program in advance. Farmers’ markets offer fresh produce, Amish meats and baked goods; at some markets, visitors can also pick their own fruit and berries.
