Discover Newberg on different scales: a walkable wine district, a short route through downtown to cultural destinations, and specific options for history, art, and recreation. The Newberg Downtown Wineries district is one mile long and easy to explore on foot, with nine tasting rooms. When looking for a hotel, you can first decide whether wine, historic sites, or a seasonal program will be the focus of your days. This lets you plan around the activities that interest you most.

Wine Tastings in Different Time Formats

Et Fille Wines offers three wine-tasting experiences at its Newberg tasting room, available Thursday through Sunday. The 45-minute Wine 101 Flight introduces the basics of winemaking and the tasting process in a guided experience. The 90-minute Legacy Experience includes six wines, including wines from the archive, accompanied by a small charcuterie selection. The two formats differ in duration and content; as experience details can change, it’s worth checking the current information before planning.

Domaine Lumineux also has a tasting room in the historic downtown, right on U.S. Route 99. This connects Newberg’s wine offerings with a specific urban setting. The one-mile tasting district and individual experiences such as Et Fille’s two formats offer different points of reference: one based on the extent of a district, the other on the duration and content of a visit.

Historic Homes and Local History

The Hoover-Minthorn House was built in 1881 by Jesse Edwards. It is the oldest surviving residence built in what is now Newberg. From 1885 to 1889, it was the home of Herbert Hoover, the 31st president of the United States. The bedroom in the house still contains the furniture Hoover used as a boy. The building thus connects its early history in Newberg with a specific detail from Hoover’s childhood.

The Newberg Carnegie Library opened on March 29, 1912. It is one of 11 Carnegie libraries in Oregon still used as libraries today. Mapping Our History offers digital access to the city’s history: its maps overlay historic land use, structures, events, and artifacts in downtown. Together, the house, library, and maps offer different ways to explore Newberg’s history—from a preserved building to a digital depiction of historic changes.

Art, Lavender, and Recurring Events

ART Elements Gallery is located in the historic downtown. Its program often includes hands-on monster workshops, artist demonstrations, and monthly rotating exhibitions with artist talks. The collection ranges from landscapes and contemporary art to ceramics, blown and fused glass, woodwork, outdoor sculpture, and jewelry. Both rotating exhibitions and a variety of art forms are featured.

Wayward Winds Lavender Farm offers seasonal U-pick lavender in Newberg. Its Lavender + Vintage Festival takes place annually on the second weekend in July; the season and event dates may change. Check both before planning your trip. Another annual event, the Willamette Valley Lavender Festival & Plein Air Art Festival, takes place at the Chehalem Cultural Center in Newberg. The two events have different focuses: lavender and vintage at the farm, and lavender and plein air art at the cultural center.

Getting Around on Foot and Other Activities

The Central Newberg Urban Trails connect cultural attractions via downtown streets and sidewalks and through the surrounding residential area. The 0.32-mile Herbert Hoover Trail provides a specific connection between the Hoover-Minthorn House Museum, Hoover Park, and downtown shopping on 1st and 2nd Streets. Compared with the wine district’s one-mile length, the trail is the shorter, clearly named route; however, the two measurements describe different ways to explore Newberg.

For BMX enthusiasts, the Chehalem BMX Track is nationally certified by USA BMX, the American Bicycle Association. Its layout includes five straights, four turns including a U-turn, a full rhythm section, and numerous jumps into the turns. The 99W Drive-In adds a family-friendly outdoor cinema with accessible activities for people with ADA access needs. On the Willamette River Water Trail at Rogers Landing, options range from canoeing and kayaking to hiking, camping, and exploring along the route from Springfield to Portland. So, alongside wine and culture, there are specific options for exercise and recreation.
