Jackson brings together riverbanks, mountain panoramas, diverse habitats and historic sites. Trails run alongside the Rogue River; at Table Rock and Roxy Ann Peak, views open up across the Rogue Valley and surrounding mountains. There are also opportunities for wildlife watching, horseback riding, climbing and cycling, as well as a cultural history you can discover through its buildings and venues. As you plan, you can decide whether to focus on waterways, scenery, wildlife or history.

Riverbanks and Lakes

Valley of the Rogue State Park extends along three miles of Rogue River shoreline. A 1.25-mile self-guided interpretive trail runs along the riverbank. TouVelle State Recreation Site is a day-use park on the banks of the same river, at the foot of geologically distinctive Table Rock. A two-mile hiking trail adds another way to explore the area; a boat ramp is located on the opposite riverbank.

Emigrant Lake also offers a specific point of reference for trip planning: Point RV Park has 32 sites with full hookups and views of 12 miles of lake shoreline. The number of sites may change, so check before your trip. Activities at Joseph H. Stewart County Park include swimming, fishing, boating, hiking and cycling. Seasonal operations may change; check current operating conditions before your visit.

Trails and Viewpoints

The Table Rocks offer trails of different lengths. On Lower Table Rock, the Oak Savannah Loop Trail is 0.5 miles long and wheelchair accessible. The Upper Table Rock Trail is 2.5 miles round trip; from there, panoramic views extend across the Rogue Valley and the surrounding Cascade and Siskiyou Mountains. This gives you a choice between a short, accessible loop and a longer out-and-back route, each described as a distinct option.

Prescott Park covers 1,740 acres and has paved and unpaved trails for hiking and mountain biking. Roxy Ann Peak in the park offers 360-degree panoramas of the Rogue Valley and surrounding mountains. The Pacific Crest Trail is easily accessible from the Howard Prairie Lake Recreational Area. Lily Glen Equestrian Area has corrals and riding trails; seasonal access may vary. At Pilot Rock, seven climbing routes are spread across the area, four of them equipped with fixed anchors.

Habitats and Wildlife Watching

Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument lies at the meeting point of the Cascade, Klamath and Siskiyou mountain ranges. It provides habitat for deer, bears, mountain lions, small mammals and songbirds. At Denman Wildlife Area, a 0.7-mile loop trail passes through six ecosystems. The area also provides water developments for migrating and breeding waterfowl, as well as habitat for upland birds.

A covered observation station stands at Whetstone Pond in Denman Wildlife Area. You can reach it via a paved, ADA-accessible path. The station offers an opportunity to watch turtles, waterfowl, herons, raptors and songbirds. Together, the trail and observation station offer two specific ways to experience the area: different ecosystems along the trail and wildlife watching at the pond.

Culture, History and Food

The Jacksonville Historic District in Jackson County, Oregon, is a National Historic Landmark. Beekman House is a Gothic Revival-style house built between 1870 and 1876. Beekman Bank also tells the story of the area’s financial history: in 1857, Beekman’s office became the first “bank” north of San Francisco and the oldest financial institution in the Pacific Northwest. The bank building has been preserved in the condition in which Beekman operated it.

Other experiences bring together landscape and culture. The 100-acre Lithia Park follows Ashland Creek through undeveloped woodland. Britt combines open-air concerts with quiet gardens and scenic trails in the Rogue Valley. Its main season as an outdoor music venue runs from June to September; if you’re planning to attend a concert, check the specific event dates.

For regional products, visit Central Point Cheese Shop, where you can taste and buy blue cheese, hard cheese and cheese curds from Rogue Creamery. The Bear Creek Wine Trail stretches for 21 miles from Central Point in the north to Ashland in the south and includes 13 wineries. As participation by individual businesses may change, check which wineries are participating before planning a specific tour.
