More than four miles of scenic trails connect parks, sports fields, and the golf course in Hazen. Hazen also has trails for biking and walking. For your planning, this means you can combine outdoor activity with several different destinations, rather than centering your stay on a single attraction.

Visitors can watch wildlife along the trails. Possible nature sightings include a pheasant flying over Antelope Creek in the morning. Hazen is also located along the Lewis and Clark Trail.

Trails, Recreation, and Water

Other kinds of activities are also available: archery is offered in Hazen. The Hazen Bay Recreation Area has both basic and modern campsites with electricity and water. It also has boat ramps, docks, and a fish-cleaning station. Camping and boating are therefore two distinct aspects to consider when planning your stay.

The Hazen Swimming Pool & Water Slide is an outdoor pool with a 165-foot waterslide. Unlike the trails, which connect several destinations, the pool brings leisure activities together in a single location. Hazen thus offers both interconnected trails and individual recreational destinations.

Summer Music, Parks, and Local History

During the summer months, the “Music in the Park” event series takes place either at Paul Weiser Memorial Park in the town center or at Heritage Park. Local vendors serve food and drinks, followed by free entertainment from musicians from the area. The program combines a summer event with food and music.

Paul Weiser Pocket Park is in downtown Hazen. Heritage Park is home to Musical Play Park. The original railroad depot offers another connection to local history: it now houses the Hazen Public Library. The same building has thus shifted from its former use as a depot to its present role as a library.

In the fall, Hazen’s Harvestfest features a parade and a quilt show. You can also try Fleischkuechle in Hazen: this specialty is classified as German-Russian and adds a culinary touch to the town’s events and recreational offerings.

A Trail Nearby

The Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site is nearby. The 6.2-mile Two Rivers Trail runs along the Knife River to the park’s southern end. Compared with the more than four miles of scenic trails in Hazen, this is a single trail centered on a river route and a named endpoint. The trails differ in both length and the way they are described.

When looking for a place to stay in Hazen, you can first consider whether you want your stay to coincide with an event or focus on trails, local history, and recreational activities. “Music in the Park” takes place during the summer months, while Harvestfest is held in the fall.
