Brevard lies in a peaceful valley in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Visitors come for the music, festivals and shops, as well as for waterfalls, trails, rivers and quiet forests. This offers different ways to shape a trip: nature, culture and local life. Brevard is known as the “Land of Waterfalls” and has 250 waterfalls.
Trails, Forest and Waterfalls
West of downtown lies Bracken Preserve, which borders Pisgah National Forest. The Brevard Greenway is a multi-use trail system that runs through the entire town and connects to Pisgah National Forest. The two offer different ways to explore: the preserve is west of downtown, while the Greenway runs through town and connects to the forest.
The Estatoe Trail is six miles long, paved and has several access points. Brevard Depot Park at 390 Railroad Avenue is particularly notable. Unlike the Greenway, a trail system that runs through town, the Estatoe Trail is more specifically defined by its length and surface.
Rivers and quiet forests are also among the reasons visitors come to Brevard. When planning a trip, you can decide whether you want to focus on trails, the forest or waterfalls. Bracken Preserve, the Greenway and the Estatoe Trail offer specific, distinct options.
Culture and Local Life
Downtown is the eight-acre Silvermont Park, a county park centered around a 33-room Colonial Revival mansion. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The museum is on the second floor. In 2026, it is open from March 1 through the end of October on Thursdays from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. and Fridays from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m., except on holidays. Check for holiday closures before your visit.
The Brevard Music Center is a summer institute and festival that also offers a year-round concert series. Music is therefore part of the town’s identity beyond the summer season. Since events take place throughout the year, check the schedule for your travel dates.
Downtown is home to more than 110 independently operated shops, including boutiques, galleries, cafés and restaurants. The number and businesses may change. Annual events offer additional set dates: the three-day White Squirrel Weekend takes place in downtown Brevard over Memorial Day weekend; White Squirrel Day is also observed every year on February 2.
Getting There and Finding Accommodation
Brevard is accessible via numerous major highways and Interstate highways. Visitors from the Research Triangle and Charlotte can reach the town via I-85. If you’re looking for a hotel in Brevard, it helps to decide what you want to focus on first: trails and nature, music and events, or the shops downtown? Then plan around your travel dates, the event schedule and the museum’s seasonal hours.
