Brighton offers several distinct points of interest: short and longer multi-use trails, historic homes, nature in the parks, and seasonal food. The trails’ lengths and types provide particularly practical guidance, while history and parks offer separate points of focus. You can plan your outing based on whether you prefer a direct connection, a longer trail, a look into history, or seasonal offerings at a market.

Multi-use trails by length and route

The Brighton Brickyard Trail is a 0.8-mile multi-use trail. It provides a direct connection for pedestrians and cyclists between Town Hall on Elmwood Avenue and Buckland Park on Westfall Road. The Lehigh Valley Trail is also a multi-use trail, but at about 22 miles it is considerably longer; in Brighton, it can be accessed at East River Road and Crittenden Road. The length comparison is clear: the Brickyard Trail is the short connection between two named destinations, while the Lehigh Valley Trail is the longer option, with two access points in Brighton. To choose, you can first decide whether to focus on a direct connection between these endpoints or on the greater designated trail length.

Historic homes and their stories

The Stone-Tolan House Historic Site is the oldest building in the county; it was built in 1792 and around 1805. Through the family life of Orringh and Elizabeth Stone, it represents the private and public activities of a household and a rural tavern on the frontier in Brighton, New York, between 1790 and 1820. The dates describe different things: 1792 and around 1805 refer to construction, while the period from 1790 to 1820 places the household and tavern activities depicted in context. The historic focus therefore encompasses not only the building’s age, but also the interplay between family life and the tavern’s public role.

As of September 6, 2026, the Historic Buckland House at 1341 Westfall Road is open to the public free of charge and by appointment only. So if you plan to visit, arrange an appointment in advance.

Parks and routes to the NYS Erie Canal Path

At Brighton Town Park, a nature trail passes through a wooded area alongside a 12-acre pond. A paved walkway west of the lodge also leads to the NYS Erie Canal Path. At Meridian Centre Park, a loop trail runs along the edge of the park, with access to this path. Two different types of routes are described: a loop trail along the edge of Meridian Centre Park and a paved walkway west of the lodge at Brighton Town Park. The nature trail by the pond adds a focus on woods and water at Town Park.

Seasonal offerings at the Brighton Farmers Market

The Brighton Farmers Market is a seasonal destination for travelers looking for food and plants. The 2026 season runs from April 26 to November 22. Offerings include fresh, sustainably grown fruits and vegetables, baked goods, meat, eggs, maple products, honey, fresh flowers, pasta, vegan and gluten-free foods, garden plants, and hot coffee. Vendors’ offerings may change. If the market is important to your travel plans, take the season dates into account and check the current offerings in advance.
