Lavallette is located on a barrier island and has nine protected ocean beaches for swimming. There are also designated beaches for surfing, as well as two beaches on Barnegat Bay with calmer waters. When planning your day, you can choose between swimming, surfing at designated beaches, and spending time at the bay. Seasonal beach operations may vary. Designated zones and seasonal conditions at surfing areas may change; access and seasonal supervision at the bay beaches may vary.
Beaches, Bay, and Boardwalk
The boardwalk invites you to take a stroll. It complements the beach and water sports with an activity on land. If you don't want to spend the whole day by the water, you can plan a walk as a separate activity.
Water Sports and Fishing
Barnegat Bay offers opportunities for boating, sailing, windsurfing, and other water sports. Two T-shaped piers on the bay are used for crabbing and fishing; state regulations apply to these activities. Lavallette's municipal boat ramp is made of concrete and is located at Bay Boulevard and New Brunswick Avenue. Permit rules and operating conditions for the ramp vary by season. Check these requirements before your trip if you plan to use the ramp.
Sports Courts and Parks
There are tennis and pickleball courts, as well as basketball and volleyball courts, at Magee Avenue and along the waterfront. This offers several kinds of court sports on land as an alternative or complement to activities on the water. The sports courts thus expand the range of land-based activities. Seasonal supervision arrangements may change, and equipment availability may also vary.
The parks vary in their amenities. Charles M. Hankins Park has benches in a shady, landscaped setting. Centennial Gazebo and Garden includes a larger seating area with benches and a gazebo. Jacobsen Park has a playground and a beach on the bay. Lavallette therefore offers a variety of places to take a break or spend time outdoors.
In Lavallette, accessible entrances with access mats for people with disabilities are available at the four widest streets. Access arrangements may be updated; check the current conditions before your visit.
Seasonal Planning and Dates
Bicycles may be ridden on the boardwalk without time restrictions outside the swimming season. Separate restrictions apply during the 2026 swimming season. If you plan to cycle, compare your travel dates with the applicable rules and check them before riding.
Lavallette Founders Day 2026 features rides, music, and entertainment in a family-friendly atmosphere. The date and program are time-sensitive. If the event affects your trip, check both in advance.
