Fernley offers a variety of ways to shape your trip: a historic railroad depot, art in Main Street Art Park, nature east of the city, and recreational activities ranging from swimming to motorsports. You can tailor your stay to your interests rather than trying to fit everything into a single outing.

Railroad History and Art

The Fernley and Lassen Railway Depot is a well-preserved example of early 20th-century pattern-book railroad architecture in Nevada. The two-story combination depot served both passenger and freight traffic. Its design and former function offer two concrete perspectives on railroad history: How was the depot designed, and what transportation needs did it serve?

In Main Street Art Park, the Bottlecap Gazebo gets its name from thousands of recycled bottle caps. Also in the park is the Desert Tortoise sculpture, 25 feet long and 17 feet tall. The two works offer different points of interest: at the gazebo, the materials used explain its name; at Desert Tortoise, the dimensions give a sense of the sculpture’s scale.

M3, also called Music Murals & Margaritas, was a free festival in Fernley in 2026. The program included murals, live music, food trucks, hands-on art activities and a craft market. That year’s event brought visual art together with music, food and interactive activities; the year refers to the festival edition described here.

Wetlands and Wildlife Viewing

The Fernley Wildlife Management Area is nearby, east of Fernley. It has wetlands important to migratory birds, as well as hiking trails and opportunities to observe upland game and other wildlife species that are not classified as game. Two nature themes come together here: the importance of the wetlands to migratory birds, and trails and wildlife viewing as recreational opportunities.

Swimming, Parks and Motorsports

The Fernley Swimming Pool offers lap-swimming and recreational-swimming sessions. During the summer months, an outdoor area with water features is also available. There is a park, barbecue areas and picnic areas around the pool. As current operating status and use conditions can change, check them before visiting.

Out of Town Park has a rodeo arena and a bandstand. Fernley 95A Speedway features car races on a dirt track in various classes, as well as a separate motocross track. The racing schedule may vary, so check in advance which dates are relevant to your stay.

The speedway is suitable for RVs; dry camping is possible near the track.

Tours and Road Planning

The Nevada-Lincoln Highway tour begins in Fernley and heads east. Check road conditions before setting out. Farm District Road is a pleasant paved detour that gives travelers an introduction to the Lincoln Highway. These road details give you two starting points for planning, without prescribing a particular order for visiting the locations.
