A stay in Ainsworth can center on a range of local attractions: a seasonal swimming pool, two museums connected to Brown County history, and nearby destinations for nature or golf. For planning purposes, the swimming pool and Sellors Barton Museum seasons, as well as the camping rules at East City Park, are especially relevant.

Swimming Pool and Season

The Ainsworth swimming pool has a pool with a water depth of 3 to 11 feet. There is also a wading pool for children. The swimming pool therefore offers two different types of pools.

The pool is generally open from the first week of June through the weekend before school starts. When operating is weather-dependent, its daily hours are 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Check the seasonal opening hours before your trip. If you plan to combine swimming with a museum visit, take both seasonal periods into account.

Museums on Brown County History

The Sellors Barton Museum is located in Courthouse Park at the intersection of U.S. Highway 20 and Main Street. It is open to visitors between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Its collections include historical artifacts, an interpretive exhibit about the Sandhills, and exhibits and archives on the history of the Brown County area.

The “Brown County Historical Coleman House and Dixon House” museum is also located in Ainsworth. It includes clothing, furniture, memorabilia, a genealogy file, and other historical information about Brown County. Their thematic focuses differ: the Sellors Barton Museum connects the Sandhills with exhibits and archives on regional history, while the Coleman House and Dixon House collections include clothing, furniture, and genealogical materials, among other items.

Nature, Golf, and Pond

The Keller Park State Recreation Area is located near Ainsworth, northeast of town on Bone Creek. The landscape covers 196 acres and includes wooded bluffs. Activities there include fishing, camping, hiking, and wildlife watching. The park offers several different nature and recreation activities in one place.

The Ainsworth Municipal Golf Course offers a different experience: the 9-hole golf course is 5 miles west of Ainsworth on Highway 20. The two destinations therefore differ in both direction and focus: northeast, the Bone Creek area with its activities and wooded bluffs; west, the golf course with its clearly stated number of holes.

The Ainsworth City Pond is a 1-acre pond owned by the City of Ainsworth; city regulations apply there.

Camping at East City Park

Tents and RVs are allowed at East City Park. Reservations are not available; sites are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. If camping in a tent or RV is an option for you, this allocation method is an important consideration when planning your overnight stay.
