Cut Bank lies on the Rocky Mountain Front, where mountain peaks meet rolling hills and wheat fields. A trail through hoodoo formations, murals and a museum with regional exhibits offer distinctive highlights. Landscape and outdoor activity sit alongside cultural history, while a park, swimming pool and cinema offer additional places to visit.

Landscape and Trails on the Rocky Mountain Front

The Cut Bank Coulee Trail runs south of Cut Bank, passes through scenic hoodoo formations and offers views of Cut Bank Creek. The 2.3-mile trail is classified as a beginner hiking trail. The Cut Bank North Trail was completed in 2025 and meets the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The two trails therefore have different focuses: the Coulee Trail emphasizes its length, scenery and beginner classification, while the North Trail is ADA-compliant.

Local History in Murals and at the Museum

The large-scale murals in downtown Cut Bank reflect the roots of homesteading, the agricultural heritage, the Lewis and Clark Expedition and the history of American Indians. The Glacier County Historical Museum features exhibits on homesteading, Lewis and Clark in the region, Glacier National Park artist John L. Clark, Blackfeet culture, the oil boom years beginning in the 1930s, and railroads. The grounds also include a 1917 schoolhouse, the Marias schoolhouse.

For a deeper look, the museum offers tours titled “One-on-One With a Historian.” They cover Lewis and Clark, homesteading and life in the oil camps. Another chapter of history can be found at Cut Bank International Airport: the World War II Airmen’s Memorial Museum is located there. The airport facilities were built in 1941 for training on U.S. B-17 bombers. The Lewis and Clark Festival in Cut Bank was held for the 45th consecutive year in 2024.
