Two 18-hole golf courses, a loop around the city, and several named water access points give Diamondhead a well-defined profile for an outdoor stay. Options range from the walking path at Twin Lakes to a 10.2-mile route from Pass Christian to Diamondhead. If you’re looking for a hotel in Diamondhead, you can first decide what to focus on during your trip: golf, walking, or water access.

Golf Courses with Distinctive Features

Diamondhead has two 18-hole golf courses. The Cardinal Course lies in gently rolling, wooded terrain; its fairways do not run parallel, and its sand bunkers are particularly long. The Pine Course features bunkers and water. If you compare the two courses by their layouts, the Cardinal Course stands out for its terrain and fairway arrangement, while the Pine Course features bunkers and water.

Trails and Natural Areas

Diamondhead Drive forms a loop of more than six miles around the city; its six-foot-wide shoulder is intended for walking or cycling. In contrast to the loop, the Grassy Point Trail runs one way from Pass Christian to Diamondhead and is 10.2 miles long. It passes through open waters in St. Louis Bay, which is surrounded by salt marshes. The trails thus differ both in their route shape and in the named landscape they pass through.

Twin Lakes has a walking path, disc golf, and freshwater fishing from the shore. Maluhia Garden is designed as a place to walk and enjoy nature and includes eleven flower beds. Diamondhead’s recreational offerings also include horseback riding lessons.

Water Access and Marina

The Marina at Diamondhead has a boat ramp and provides access to the Jordan River and Bay of St. Louis via Paradise Bayou. Pete’s Landing offers residents and visitors convenient access to boating. A route from the Bayou Drive Kayak Launch is nine miles long and ends at the Diamondhead Marina. From Diamondhead, it’s a short drive of about 10 miles to reach the water and a paved multimodal path along the beach.

City History and Mardi Gras Parade

Beginning in 1969, substantial investment transformed Diamondhead from a rural area into a retirement city and resort. By 1980, the Pines Golf Course, a country club, a yacht club, a marina, and an airstrip had been built.

The Krewe of Diamondhead holds a Mardi Gras parade every year on the Saturday before Mardi Gras Day. It starts at City Hall and ends at Diamondhead Country Club. If you want to plan your trip around the parade, check the event date in advance.
