Waseca offers a range of reasons to stay: water activities, paved trails, art and local history. If you’re looking for a hotel in Waseca, it can help to decide what you want to focus on during your visit first.

Water and Trails in Waseca

The seasonal Waseca Water Park features a 25-foot-tall slide tower, a 180-foot-long flume slide and a 106-foot-long speed slide. The different slide lengths give the water park two distinct attractions; keep in mind when planning that it operates seasonally. Converted to metric, the tower is about 7.6 meters tall, the flume slide about 54.9 meters long and the speed slide about 32.3 meters long. The flume slide is therefore approximately 1.7 times as long as the speed slide, a difference of about 22.6 meters. The tower measurement refers to its height, not the length of a slide.

Loon Lake lies on the west side of Waseca. Only electric motors are allowed on boats on this lake—a key rule to keep in mind if you’re planning a boat trip. At Clear Lake Park, you can rent bicycles, kayaks and paddleboards to explore Waseca’s two bodies of water. Confirm rental availability before you arrive.

Across the city, Waseca maintains about 9.2 miles of paved trails. Maplewood Park offers a different landscape, with wooded trails and native wildflowers. The park is a remnant of the large forests that once covered southern Minnesota. Together, the citywide trail mileage and this specific park with its wooded character offer different ways to spend time outdoors.

Art, Crafts and Local History

Hofmann Apiaries is the only apiary in Minnesota listed on the National Register of Historic Places. By appointment, visitors can explore the honey house, wax shed and bee garden; the experience also includes historic artifacts and stories about local beekeeping. Visits are by appointment only.

The Waseca Art Center offers both group classes and private instruction for adults, teens and children. Since individual class schedules change, check dates and offerings in advance. For exhibitions, the center has two gallery spaces, each of which hosts an exhibition every six weeks. Classes and galleries offer two distinct ways to engage with art: instruction and changing exhibitions.

Waseca’s courthouse, built in 1897, still stands as a reminder of the city’s early beginnings. A single historic landmark offers one perspective, while the 16-stop history tour takes visitors to important places, people and events in Waseca and the surrounding area. If you’d like to take the tour, check the availability of its website or app in advance.
