Harvey offers tangible points of interest for a stay: its location on the Mississippi, sports facilities and green spaces, and the history of the Harvey Tunnel and the settlement of Cosmopolite City.

Location between the Mississippi and Harvey Canal

Harvey lies on the west bank of the Mississippi River. New Orleans is directly across the river. The Harvey Canal is an important shipping route to the Gulf of Mexico. The Mississippi and the canal therefore serve as different points of reference: the river places Harvey geographically opposite New Orleans, while the canal plays a role in shipping traffic toward the Gulf. The canal is also mentioned in descriptions of the Harvey Tunnel, which runs beneath it. The riverfront location and the tunnel can thus be seen as two concrete aspects of local orientation.

Sports facilities and green spaces

Harvey Playground hosts Biddy Basketball JPRD West, making it a specific basketball destination. M.L. King Playground offers youth programs in football, cheerleading, volleyball, basketball, track and field, soccer, baseball, and softball. The selection includes several team sports as well as track and field. Since program availability may change, check the current program schedule before planning a visit.

King's Grant Playground has a multi-purpose sports complex with tennis, basketball, football, baseball or softball, volleyball, and track and field. M.L. King and King's Grant have some sports in common: basketball, football, volleyball, and track and field are part of both offerings. The difference is in the type of offering: M.L. King has youth programs, while King's Grant has a multi-purpose complex. This comparison makes it possible to distinguish whether a youth program or a sports facility with several disciplines is the main focus.

Woodland West in Harvey has extensive green spaces and exercise stations. Here, green space and opportunities for exercise complement the playgrounds' sport-specific offerings. The green spaces and exercise stations provide two distinct points of interest: the landscape and an explicitly training-oriented feature.

Tunnel and settlement history

The Harvey Tunnel is a two-tube vehicle and pedestrian tunnel beneath the Harvey Canal. It opened to traffic in 1957. The opening year provides a historical reference point for the structure; the number of tubes and types of use describe its design and function. The tunnel thus adds a concrete infrastructure element to Harvey's history.

The town's history also includes Jean-Baptiste d’Estrehan de Beaupre, royal treasurer and auditor of the French colony of Louisiana, who was the original owner of the land. Harvey first developed as a settlement called Cosmopolite City, built for a company. Joseph Hale Harvey developed Cosmopolite City; Joseph Harvey renamed the settlement after the Harvey family name. The original ownership, development as a company settlement, and naming can thus be understood as distinct aspects of the town's history. Cosmopolite City refers to the original settlement, while Harvey emerged from the renaming.
