Explore the Outdoors
The Headquarters Unit of the Red River National Wildlife Refuge in Bossier City offers more than five miles of hiking trails. The trails at the visitor center and in the Headquarters Unit are open seven days a week from sunrise to sunset. For planning your day, this means that the available time depends on daylight, not on a particular day of the week. Check for notices of temporary closures before you travel. The refuge also has exhibits in the visitor center.
South Bossier Park reopened in February 2026. At the time of reopening, restrooms, facilities, and park amenities were ready for public use; check their status before your visit. The parks also differ in practical ways: at the refuge, trail hours set the framework for your day, while the listed facilities offer a specific point of reference at South Bossier Park.
East of Haughton, Tall Timbers Park is near the Tall Timbers subdivision and borders U.S. Highway 80. The sports field is used for youth team practice in American football, baseball, and soccer; a walking path is heavily used by nearby residents. This means that team practice and a well-used everyday path coexist in the park. If you’re interested in how local residents use parks, this contrast offers a different perspective alongside the refuge’s hiking trails.
At Lake Bistineau, Parish Camp has a renovated public boat launch. Lake Plain Dealing Park is part of Louisiana’s National Scenic Boom or Bust Byway. These nature-related highlights range from a public boat launch on the lake to a park associated with a scenic byway.

For aviation enthusiasts, the specifically named models offer starting points for focusing on individual aircraft.
The Bossier Parish Library Historical Center collects and preserves materials about the history of Bossier Parish and creates exhibits on local history. It is part of the Bossier Central Library Complex; visitors also have access to a dedicated research room. The collection, exhibits, and research room offer different perspectives on the parish’s history.
Exhibits by local artists at the Bossier Arts Council change every two months. The council presents programs throughout the year, including ARTini and the SBC Zombie Walk, and organizes art exhibitions. Check current event dates if you’d like to add an event to your plans.
In Bossier City’s East Bank District, Flying Heart Brewing offers a tour or tasting. This brewing-related experience adds another cultural touch to the region alongside its exhibits, collections, and events.
