Wildlife Encounters and Larger-than-Life Scale

At Camel Encounters, guests can feed dromedaries and pose with them for photos. Zoo staff decide whether the animals may be touched. The Ark Encounter offers a different sense of scale with its full-size replica of Noah’s Ark: it is approximately 510 feet long, 85 feet wide and 51 feet high. Its length, width and height make the scale of the replica clear.

Admission to the Ark Encounter also includes the Ararat Ridge Zoo, a petting zoo, a kangaroo walkabout and animal shows. Since admission policies can change, check the terms before your visit. This way, wildlife viewing complements the encounter with the Ark, without the two offering the same experience.

Experiences for Children

The Skinner Family Fun Center is designed for children ages 1 to 12. It also has a café serving snacks. The Williamstown Splash Park offers a free splash area for children and is open seasonally. Check visiting hours for your date, as year-round operation is not guaranteed.

The Ararat Ridge Zoo offers a different focus: alongside the petting zoo, it features a kangaroo walkabout and animal shows. If you consider wildlife encounters and play opportunities as separate parts of your trip, you can give each experience the weight that suits your interests.

Green Spaces and Water

Grant County Park in Crittenden, Kentucky, encompasses 54 acres of green space and wooded trails. It offers a scenic complement to the wildlife and cultural attractions. Park conditions and facilities can change; check them before your visit. Lloyd Wildlife Area in Crittenden also offers the chance to see deer in the wild.

Williamstown Lake is a public, 330-acre recreational lake and also a water reservoir. Canoeing, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding are available there. There is a free public boat launch, and numerous boat docks offer supplies and boat rentals. The options range from paddling to a boating excursion, without requiring you to follow a particular route.

The park and lake offer different ways to spend time outdoors: green spaces and wooded trails shape a visit to the park, while water sports and boating options take center stage at the lake. If you enjoy exploring on foot, you can consider the park trails; if you want to get out on the water, Williamstown Lake offers several of the options mentioned above.

History in Different Places

Old Baptist Church on the Dry Ridge was founded on August 28, 1791, and was located at the entrance to Conrad Lane in Williamstown, Kentucky. William Arnold Log House is a 19th-century log cabin built from hewn poplar logs. Sherman Tavern is one of Kentucky’s last surviving stagecoach stops. Together, these three names draw attention to different aspects of the past: an early founding date, traditional construction and the history of travel.

Theater, Education and Encounters

Stage Right Musical Theatre Company presents professional live theater performances. It also offers workshops, classes and productions for students as part of its cultural education program. In this way, the company combines performances with an educational program aimed at young learners.

Patriots Landing is a faith-based veterans’ nonprofit in Williamstown that makes handcrafted products by U.S. military veterans. The organization invites visitors to meet veterans, browse products and learn more about their history. Alongside the performing arts, you can visit a place where veterans’ work is at the center.

Whichever of these facets interests you most can guide your outing plans.
