A former Episcopal church dating from the late 1880s houses the DeMoulin Museum. The collection features examples of many DeMoulin products, including the Bucking Goat, Invisible Paddle Machine, and Lifting and Spraying Machine lodge initiation devices. Founded in 2010, the museum honors the factory’s founders, employees, and products. Here, a specific chapter of industrial history meets a late-19th-century church building.

Museums and Memorials

The Bond County Museum showcases Victorian furnishings, Civil War materials, and rotating exhibits about the county’s people, architecture, and industry. Its collection also includes a piano from the 1840s that belonged to the founders of Almira College. The Richard W. Bock Museum features more than 300 plaster and bronze sculptures by Richard Bock.

The memorials also take different forms. The Bond County Soldier's Monument stands on the courthouse’s south lawn. It was dedicated in 1903, on the 40th anniversary of the Battle of Chickamauga. The Veteran's Memorial consists of arches, each made from about 700 bricks. The bricks bear the names and military branches of veterans from Bond County.

Agriculture and Living History

The American Farm Heritage Museum is dedicated to preserving the agricultural heritage that shaped this land. Its grounds include the Lil' Red Barn Museum, with displays of rural life from a bygone era. The Hills Fort Rendezvous at the American Farm Heritage Museum is listed in the events calendar as an annual living-history event from September 18 to 20, 2026. The weekend event brings together reenactors, vendors, and enthusiasts.

The One-Room School Museum in Bond County is open by appointment only, and admission is free. If you’re interested in the history of schools, you can plan around this visiting requirement in advance.

Trails and Water

A hiking trail winds through the nature preserve and around the lake. Old wooden bridges and a cabin nestled in the woods are also among the area’s distinctive features. The preserve is also one of the few public access points to Governor Bond Lake. Woodlands and prairies are part of the preserve’s character, and extensive opportunities for hiking and horseback riding complement its natural setting.

Governor Bond Lake covers about 775 acres and is suitable for recreational fishing. It has two boat ramps. The required permits for boating must be obtained from the City of Greenville. Launching a boat at Patriots Park Lake is a separate matter: visitors can launch boats or kayaks there with a permit from the Kingsbury Park District.
