A recurring food event and two distinct church histories give Hephzibah several clearly defined travel highlights. Food Truck Friday offers a specific reason to choose your travel dates; the historic sites take you back to 1812, 1852, and 1890. Richmond County also provides a broader regional perspective, adding landscape and recreation topics.

Food Truck Friday and Choosing Your Travel Dates

Food Truck Friday takes place on the second Friday of every month at the Hephzibah Agricultural Center. The event features food trucks and vendor booths. If you want to plan your trip around this recurring event, check the current calendar beforehand. The planning question is straightforward: Should your stay include the second Friday, or are the historic sites your main focus regardless of the event date?

Two Church Histories, Different Milestones

The congregation associated with Hephzibah Methodist Church was established in Brothersville in March 1852 to serve the 15 families living there. The Brothersville Methodist Church building was moved to the village of Hephzibah in 1890; the church was later renamed Hephzibah Methodist Church. The two dates mark different milestones: the congregation’s establishment in Brothersville in 1852 and the church building’s move to Hephzibah in 1890.

The congregation of First Ebenezer Baptist Church traces its roots to services held by enslaved people on Rhodes Plantation in August 1812. First Ebenezer Baptist Church also played a major role in founding the Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia, the first African American convention in Georgia. The two congregational histories have different emphases: for the Methodist church, the focus is on its founding location and the later move of its building; for First Ebenezer, it also includes services held under slavery and the church’s role in founding the convention.

Landscape and Recreation in Richmond County

Spirit Creek Forest Wildlife Management Area is located in Richmond County and covers 570 acres. It consists primarily of planted loblolly pine stands of varying ages, along with forested bottomlands along Spirit Creek. Richmond County therefore offers a landscape of pine stands and forested valleys—a different focus from the local and congregational histories.

Diamond Lakes Tennis Center is located in Diamond Lakes Regional Park. In the wider Richmond travel destination, Blythe Area Recreation Center offers open spaces, picnic areas, playgrounds, and a walking path or hiking trail. If you plan to visit, check current local information for operating details.

Richmond as a Regional Framework

Richmond County is in east-central Georgia and borders the Savannah River and the South Carolina state line. The county includes Augusta, Hephzibah, and Blythe. It was established in 1777 as one of Georgia’s original counties. This county history adds an earlier regional perspective to the later milestones in the local and congregational histories.
