Water, trails, and a multifaceted local history give Colquitt County its different sides. At Reed Bingham State Park, a large lake, wildlife-watching opportunities, and hiking and biking trails come together. Moultrie adds historic buildings, theater, and urban trails to these nature-focused attractions. You can explore the landscape, history, and local agriculture as distinct discoveries.

Lake, Trails, and Wildlife

Reed Bingham State Park features a 375-acre lake. Canoes and kayaks are available to rent in the park. Eight trails cover a total of seven miles and are open from sunrise to sunset. All trails are accessible to hikers and cyclists. This gives you different ways to experience the landscape on the water and on land. The park is less than six miles from Interstate 75.

Wildlife also offers specific opportunities for observation: Possible sightings include gopher tortoises, yellow-bellied sliders, indigo snakes, and American alligators. Bald eagles can be spotted seasonally. Nearly 80 percent of the Coastal Plain plant community is also represented along the Coastal Plain Nature Trail. The trail combines a walk with a special look at the region’s plant life.

Trails and Parks in Moultrie

Tom White Linear Park offers 7.2 miles of walking, biking, and jogging trails. The route stretches from Downtown Moultrie to the municipal airport. Trail signs are available in English and Spanish. Its length, uses, and endpoints provide clear guidance for anyone looking to explore a trail in Moultrie.

Main Street Park offers a different experience: its walking trail is 0.25 miles long, and it also has a shaded playground. Compared with the 7.2 miles of Tom White Linear Park, it is a much shorter route. The two parks therefore offer different distances for walks, while the playground is another feature of Main Street Park.

Culture and History

In Moultrie, several chapters of local history meet a variety of cultural offerings. The Arts Center is located in the former Moultrie High School building, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The center stages theater productions featuring local talent throughout the year and offers classes in dance, music, and art. The building’s history sits alongside an ongoing program.

The Museum of Colquitt County History presents materials about early life in the county. Its collections include artifacts of Indigenous peoples of the Americas and memorabilia from the American Civil War. A permanent exhibit is devoted to the Colquitt County Sports Hall of Fame. The Old Colquitt County Jail adds an architectural feature: the building dates from 1915 and was built in the Gothic Revival style. The original gallows are still on the third floor.

The Moultrie Commercial Historic District also tells the story of the area’s economic past: historically, it was an important commercial center for the city of Moultrie and Colquitt County. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 3, 1994. Along with the Arts Center’s former school building and the old jail, the district offers a look at different historic sites and their respective significance.

Agriculture and Local Experiences

Moultrie is in Colquitt County in southern Georgia, surrounded by some of Georgia’s most productive agricultural land. Georgia Grown Trail 37 runs through the county and connects agritourism destinations such as U-pick farms, dairies, vineyards, and wineries. Agriculture is also among the themes you can discover along a tourism route.

Near Moultrie, C&J Berry Farms offers seasonal blueberry picking. Ochlockonee Ridge Farms offers both U-pick strawberries and pre-picked strawberries. The blueberry offering is seasonal, while the strawberry offering lets you choose between picking your own and buying berries that have already been picked. The two farms therefore differ both in the fruit they offer and in how it is picked.
